Blinded April 24, 2007

How often do you wash your curtains?  I am contemplating sending my curtains over to the dry cleaners to get it washed, ironed and spanking clean.  For one, I do not have the space in my apartment to hang out my curtains to dry and I have no idea how to iron them.  Despite the hassle of getting these curtains washed, I wouldn’t change a thing about the choice of window decorations we chose.

When we were decorating our apartment some 2 years back, we put a lot of thought into adorning our windows and sliding doors.  Initially we had wanted to go with vertical blinds, being exposed to its classiness when my hubby had them in his apartment in the States.  However in the end we settled on a combination of curtains with linings, as well as venetian blinds, for that sophisticated feel.  At that time, we noticed a lot of our friends had roman blinds in their homes, and being one to not follow the norm, we chose otherwise.  Our choices were based on how the curtains and blinds would blend in with our home decor and color of our walls. We had our curtains and blinds custom-made, although we could have chosen the easy way out and have them ready-made.

In any case, my hubby and I had a LOT of fun decorating our house, and would certainly look forward to that experience all over again when we eventually get a landed property.  Hopefully soon…

In the comfort of my home April 24, 2007

Nowadays, most of my everyday transactions are done online.  If there is a bill to be paid, the first question I would ask is “Can pay online ah?”.  Most banks offer a range of services to encourage laziness in people because they get to run their errands online.  In spite of this, I am surprised that there are still some people who are skeptical on online transactions.  I still meet people who are shocked when I tell them I purchased most of my baby products online… and from US sites too!

Out of all my bills, only my water bill is paid non-online.  I wish my bank would incorporate PBA as one of its online merchants soon.  It’s so frustrating to have to make a trip to the post office to pay my water bill every month.  It would certainly save me a lot of time and petrol if I could pay online.  I remember waiting in line for up to 30 minutes just to pay my assessment bill previously, but now I can do it all with the click of a mouse.  And the receipt is sent to me in a couple of weeks.  So yes, it is definitely in my wish list to have the water bill payment available online.

And guess what? Another thing we can do online now is renew our driving license!  See the LESEN MATI ad on my site courtesy of Nuffnang? Up till last week, I thought that driving license renewal can only be done in the Road Transport Departments and post office.  I only renew mine every 5 years, so it’s really not a hassle to go there, but one MUST remember to dress decently when one goes to the RTD(JPJ).  No slippers, singlets, shorts or tankinis :P - Once, I was forbidden to enter the JPJ because I was wearing a tank top.  Luckily Mom was with me, and she did the renewal for me.  So now if I really feel like wearing just t-shirt and shorts, I can simply do my renewal online… and they even deliver to your doorstep, for a small fee of course!  Very soon, I won’t even have to leave my house… except for shopping, of course! :)

Back to M and Sizzling Fajita April 22, 2007

We spent Saturday shopping at Queensbay Mall. I decided to utilize my Jusco Members’ Day Privilege voucher which entitled me to get 15% discount for almost everything in the departmental store and 5% discount in the supermarket section. Temptation (and vanity) got the better of me, and I ended up buying a new swimsuit for myself. It’s a black halter tankini and I got it for 15% off the retail price! :) Better yet, I got it at size M, which is my pre-pregnancy size… I was wearing a size XL swimsuit when I was preggers, so naturally I was elated. I just might go swimming tomorrow…. hehehe…

Oh yeah… have to add this: we had dinner at Friday’s again where I redeemed/claimed my FREE Sizzling Fajita Tower. On our previous visit to Friday’s, we were lucky enough to be selected as a recipient of this free entree, which costs RM30.90-RM32.90, depending on whether you order it in the chicken, beef or combo variety (I think they also have shrimp, but let’s not deviate, shall we?). Anyway, all I had to do was to log in to the Friday’s survey site, answer a few questions, and when I was done, a code was generated. This code needs to be copied onto the receipt and brought along to any Friday’s outlet to claim the meal. Ain’t that great?

I ordered the Sizzling Fajita Tower Combo (Beef + Chicken) and man, it was fantastic! It was served in 3 layers:

Note of caution though: Be EXTREMELY HUNGRY if you wanna order this.

PayPerPost’s New Acquisition April 22, 2007

Have you heard?  There’s news off the rumor mill that PayPerPost has acquired a new company.  Yes, you read right… the company that has been paying millions of bloggers worldwide just to blog about the stuff they love, has bought over a new company.  However, details have not been announced yet as to which company it is, or even what business this new company is involved in.  What this news means is that it will certainly be HOT enough to drive traffic to the PayPerPost site, if not only to serve as fodder for the curious.

I, for one, am eager to see if this new deal will go through, since the previous hooha that the Performancing Deal was off.  I wonder if the acquisition of this new yet-to-be-revealed company will mean many more opportunites for us posties.  Better high-paying unsegmented opportunities that transcends all geographies and demographics, perhaps?… Making 1K Tuesday a permanent fixture? :)

The acquisition of a new company by PayPerPost is probably in line with their quest to seek an analytics solution that will be able to integrate seamlessly into the PayPerPost marketplace.  This is a win-win situation for everyone, and as a bonus, maybe, just maybe….. there will be some stock options for us posties too… :)  So until the grand announcement is made next week, just hold on to your horses and wait patiently…

Pipe Fiasco and Successful e-Filing April 21, 2007

Last night at about 9:30p.m., we heard a loud sound coming from the bathroom in our master bedroom.  It sounded like a splurge of water, no…more like a waterfall.  A waterfall in our bathroom?

NOOoooooo…actually the water pipe connecting to our sink had done its time.  There was water everywhere in the bathroom, and there was nothing else we could do except to turn off the main water faucet, which caused our entire house to be water-less.  Thank goodness Ethan and I had already had our shower, but that left poor Pete who was yearning for that shower of his… Oh, what one would give for water! So Pete called our plumber to see if he could come by and replace the pipe.  Unfortunatelyour plumber, who stays in Butterworth, was not available that night and also the next day…. Bummer! Luckily he was able to recommend his friend to come instead.

After a good 30 minutes of no-water later, the plumber arrived and fixed the pipe.  It was done in a jiffy, much to our relief as…errrmmm…. Ethan had already pooed :P

Anyway, here’s a glimpse of our spankin’ brand new pipe …

And do you know how we celebrated the arrival of the new pipe?  We submitted our tax returns last night! There, job’s done!  All done through e-filing, and I must say that despite the initial setback I faced on getting an erroneous e-PIN, and potentially being non-existent, I was pretty impressed with the experience of submitting my returns online.  All done in the comfort of my home.

Freaky Testing April 21, 2007

The camera I now use is at least 5 years old. My hubby bought it from the States when he was there on business and we’ve used it ever since. Although our trusted camera produces excellent shots (actually mostly due to the photographers.. hehe!), the battery life is running short and we can hardly take 10 shots before we have to change the battery.

So, I think it’s high time we scout around for a new camera. Of course, my best resource is the internet and I recently stumbled on this fantastic site Testfreaks. Testfreaks collects reviews and information about technological gadgets, including of course the best digital cameras in the market, compare them and help consumers make an informed decision before actually placing an order. I especially like the feature that lists the Top 10 products in a particular category, for instance Top 10 Digital Cameras.

Testfreaks is currently in test phase (Alpha version) but will soon be launching with cool stuff like forums, professional reviews and if you really can’t wait, you can check out the Testfreaks Blog now. To get a head start on what Testfreaks has to offer, join their forumnow. You won’t regret it.

A Card to Call Your Own April 20, 2007

I remember when I was in school, it was a trend to have a personal “calling card” of your own.  This card would provide details like your name, address, phone number, date of birth, etc.  I’m not sure why this is a fad, but I know I had a stack of cards done for myself as well.  Times have changed since then, and nowadays, we can get beautifully and professionally designed business cards created in a jiffy - how else but online business card printing!  I for one was astonished by the countless designs offered for the various professions.  There are custom-designed cards for people in the Animal/Pet Care profession, people in the music business and surprise, surprise, even politicians!  I especially love the Baby’s Feet design, which is so incredibly adorable!  For me, my card would say, Loving Mommy to an Adorable Baby Boy :)

And that’s not all this site has to offer.  They also provide services to print greeting cards, magnets (I love these, because you can just plain stick ‘em on the fridge) and postcards, among others.

What a week it has been… April 20, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Thoughts & Scribblings , 5comments

I’m so glad it’s Friday today. It has been one LONG week and I’m SO looking forward to the weekend. Last weekend was a rollercoaster ride, what with the travelling to Damansara and all, so this weekend I hope to take it real easy; hang out with Pete and Ethan, go for a leisurely dim sum brunch, go malling (now there’s a word)…and oh yeah…. complete my tax returns. Bleeaagghhh….!

Early this week, Giddy Tigers was reviewed by none other than PabloPabla on his Blog Reviews site. It’s great to know what my readers are atuned to, and I do take comments into consideration, so if there’s anything you like or don’t like about my blog, please let me know. Or you can even choose to rant about it on your blog and earn $7.50!

On Tuesday I actually SAW the $500 PayPerPost opportunity open up. I clicked on it, but darn…. someone was quicker than me. So it was literally $500 slipping through my fingers. Ah well…there’s always next Tuesday.

Then it was work work work all through the week. Busy busy… but hey, it’s Friday now…I rummaged around and found this gem of a picture. I took it a couple of weeks back when I had lunch at a restaurant in Batu Lanchang. Tell me, would you dare go to this clinic?

Have a happy weekend everyone!
