The roach, the roach!

How to get rid of a house cockroach in 10 easy steps:

  1. Announce that you spot the cockroach crawling around on the floor. Say something like, “Cockroach!”
  2. Call out to your hubby, boyfriend, housemate, father, mother, or whoever you are living with to help you get rid of it. Skip this step if you are living alone.
(In my case, when I asked hubbs (sweetly) to help me get rid of the 6-legged creature, he mumbled something that sounded like, “You said you weren’t afraid what…” – he must have been referring to revelation that I was fearless when it came to bugs and roaches. Me and my big mouth. So much for being a damsel in distress. Bah.)
  3. Find some old newspapers. It helps if you have a stack ready somewhere in the house.
  4. Put two sheets of old newspaper aside and roll the rest of the newspaper into something resembling a bat, …. well…something you can hit with.
  5. With one quick whack, hit the cockroach in such a way as to make it giddy. Repeat a few times if cockroach is still moving happily around. If you’re in luck, the fella will be overturned, with legs sticking up.
  6. Quickly grab the 2 sheets of newspaper you put aside and wrap the cockroach up.
  7. Stuff the wrapped-up bundle into a plastic or paper bag. Secure tightly with a dead knot.
  8. Put it outside the house. DO NOT throw it in the dustbin IN your house. The little critter *might* escape.
  9. Dispose of the bag as soon as you can.
  10. Put on smug look of achievement on a job well done.

Actually I find that some mosquito spray works to stun them for a while. Take this moment to whack with whatever is convenient, and clean up the mess. I hate it when they start to fly ewww…

The Giddy Tiger says: But what if the spray makes them fly away?

  2. kakaka…. my hubby and son afraid of cockroaches. I’m always the heroine. I set cockroach traps around the house. Quite effective.

The Giddy Tiger says: I didn’t know there were cockroach traps available…

  3. ehon says:

like that also make one post! lol!

spray spray and keep spraying with insecticide! lol!

killing cockroach by hitting it is not the best idea. cos cockroach attracts their mate through chemical, so when u hit it, u leave the chemical behind (unless u mop with detergent lar) and then other roaches will come too.. wad a biology nerd i am huh!

The Giddy Tiger says: I read about that somewhere too! Eeks….I just hit it till it is dizzy, then I wrap it up and squeeze it…I sound sadistic, no?

  4. Gallivanter says:

I’m kinda “geli-fied” by cockroaches too. Currently, I just spray them close – dead within seconds…

    -Roach Killa-

The Giddy Tiger says: Gotta be really close to spray them that way, eh?

  5. may says:

I hate roaches! especially when they fly. and when they’re that huge like the one in your pix, I don’t even dare to get close with a rolled up newspaper. need to spppraaaaayyyyyyy kaw-kaw with Ridsect first, till it’s half-dazed. then only creep up and WHACK it! hahahaha!

The Giddy Tiger says: Thing is, I hate the smell of insecticide too, so I try to make do WITHOUT first.

  6. rinnah says:

I take the easy way out. Scream and run away! LOLOL!

Unless… I am in the bathroom then I turn the shower on full blast and douse ’em in whatever spray / chemical / liquid soap I can find. Then I leave the mess behind for my parents to clean. Bwahahahaha!

The Giddy Tiger says: Water never does it for the roaches I encounter…they are mean and tough!

  7. Lovelymummy says:

I was just reading about another method to get rid of cockroach, here. I don’t fold the paper into a bat, I just flatten the cockroach by pressing onto the paper ;p Then can feel the juice squirt out .. ew.. ;p

The Giddy Tiger says: Oh I do that AFTER I wrap the cockroach up.

I usually dump it inside my toilet and flush it.

The Giddy Tiger says: But you have to catch it first right?

  15. Leah says:

Try putting some pandan leaves in the toilet, kitchen drawers and cabinets, pretty effective in keeping the crocoaches away on top of acting as natural air refresher.

The Giddy Tiger says: Yeah! I know my BIL keeps those pandan leaves in his car too!

  16. Sue says:

    Use the broom girl haha…

The Giddy Tiger says: Yeah, but sweep where? 😀

  17. huisia says:
