C’mon Baby Let’s do the Salsa! September 13, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Rainmakers , 1 comment so far

I really ought to start exercising soon. Sure, I have lost all my pregnancy weight, but exercise just does something to you. I miss the endorphin rush that I used to get after my Body Jam sessions in the gym. One whole hour of hip-and-booty-shaking can do a lot of good, I tell ya.But all is not lost as I found the answer to my predicament. I can now do the salsa with the experts at Salsa Boot Camp! I don’t need to join a dance class because the dance class comes to me! Not only am I now able to indulge in salsa, I can choose to learn bachata (what’s that?) and polish my chacha techniques just by checking out the dance videos available! There is also a variety of dance music to choose from. Is there ANYTHING we cannot do on the internet nowadays?!

Hmmm… I wonder if I can master the rumba and the paso doble while I am at it?

Love, Love Me, Do! September 13, 2007

It’s heartwarming to know that I am loved… or rather my BLOG is loved!  I received this lover-ly award from Angeleyes just yesterday and was told to spread this love slooowwwwllllyyyyyy…….(2 blogs at a time was the rule). Angeleyes was one of the first commentors on my humble blog, and I am pleased that I have had the opportunity to meet her once before, where else but in Queensbay Mall.  That number would soon tally a grand TWO, because we are planning another meetup soon.

Thanks for the award, Angeleyes!

Is there a Camera in the House? September 11, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Rainmakers , 1 comment so far

One of the reasons my hubby and I decided against hiring a live-in maid (apart from invasion of privacy) is because our eyes cannot follow the maid everywhere around the house. Of course in the event we do have a maid, it will be a matter of time before we can actually trust the maid. There are too many maid horror stories that we have heard recently.

So when I stumbled on HomeCamera, an internet home surveillance system designed for ordinary folks, it did not take a lot of coaxing for me to check out what they had to offer. And when we can’t be everywhere all the time, a home camera certainly comes in handy. I am very skeptical when it comes to home surveillance equipment, so I would need to be absolutely sure it fits my requirements before I give it a try. Things I would look for when checking out home surveillance systems are:

For one thing, setting up HomeCamera is certainly a breeze. It really is idiot-proof. All I need to do is to download the free Windows webcam security software (free only during the beta period!), together with user ID and password and I am all set! Best of all, it works with ALL webcams and I can access my HomeCamera account from anywhere, whether I am using my PDA or mobile phone. My webcam will do all the work while I can just sit back enjoying my cup of teh tarik. Also, what caught my eye is their 24×7 support services. You never know when that might come in handy, right?

SIGH… I wish I had heard of this a few years back and installed it before the thief broke into our apartment and carted our stuff away. It would have been full-proof evidence then! Of course, a good addition to HomeCamera would be the functionality to call the authorities once an alert or emergency is noticed, you know, something like a burglar system. But with more features being added to HomeCamera soon, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this incorporated as well!

Is this an excuse to SPLURGE? September 11, 2007

The recent revelation of Budget 2008 states that we are now able to claim RM300 under our individual tax relief for sports and exercise equipment, all in the name of promoting a healthy lifestyle. This is good news, right? :)

So now I wonder if this RM300 covers:

Nevertheless, I welcome this RM300 tax relief with open arms. I’m hoping this amount will be revised (and increased) in years to come, just like the book relief.

Any couch potatoes out there willing to *grant* me their RM300 for next year? … worth a shot, anyway. :)

Pink Ribbons! September 11, 2007

Pink is always the color of innocence, of sweetness and niceness. And so, it was such a pleasant surprise to receive the above award this morning from Charlotte’s Mommy. Look at all the pinkness and ribbons and flowers this award came with. It’s hard not to smile just looking at it, right?

“This award will be awarded to those that are just nice people , good blog friends and those that inspire good feelings and inspiration! Those that care about others that are there to lend support or those that are just a positive influence in our blogging world!”

Roses are red, violets are blue,
This award comes from me to you:

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy September 11, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Rainmakers , 4comments

It goes without saying that I love music. Everything and anything to do with music works for me. I love singing, I love operas, musicals, playing the piano, and yes, I have loved dancing for as long as I have known. In school, I participated in dance items for the annual school concerts. I remember playing the part of a flamenco dancer, wearing a chili-red frilly skirt and a white lacy blouse, holding a pretty fan for effect (yes, I still have that picture!). I was also caught up in that whole Debbie Gibson era, and I can see myself now dancing to the rhythm of Electric Youth. I even choreographed the entire dance sequence, together with a good girl friend of mine!

Aahhh…those were fantastic memories that would be etched in my mind forever.

The one genre of dance I did not explore fully was ballet. When I was a little girl, I did take up ballet classes, but somewhere along the line, the interest fazed out, unfortunately. A few years later when I was older, my classmate (who did take up ballet) related stories to me about bleeding toes and torn ballet shoes, all a result of ballet practice. How I wish now that that had not deterred me to pursue ballet to another level. A ballet performance is such a riveting one to witness. There’s something fascinating about watching lithe and graceful ballet dancers moving to the music of Swan Lake, twirling effortlessly in a pirouette in unison in all their pink tutus and beautifully extending their arms in an arabesque, with hair perfectly coiffed up in a bun.

If only I had taken ballet a few levels further, I could be one of those ballerinas. Well, maybe I can still play pretend and buy a tutu and a pair of shoes? Maybe.

The Genie came for a visit… September 10, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 10comments

I am working on a very difficult tag right now, so difficult it has caused me to get blogger’s block, which is something I hardly ever get. But while I am squeezing my brain to churn that tag out, the Genie King and Genie Princess magically appeared and granted me a wish. No, I didn’t get to rub a magic lamp a la Aladdin, but a very kind soul in the form of Paris delivered this wish to me. I so need this right now, so I am gonna try and see if this works… plus, Paris thinks I am a sport, so it’d be rude of me NOT to do this… *wink*

Water Therapy September 10, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Rainmakers , 2comments

My back aches. I felt the pain last night as I was drifting off to sleep, but I tried to dream the pain away. I don’t think it is caused by age… hehe… I am still very young, if I might say so myself.  Maybe it’s because I did too much housework (yeah, right)…but hubby says it is because Ethan is getting heavier.  Well, it could very well be the stress and tension from work too.

Whatever the reason, I could really do with some therapeutic massage. Come to think of it, it has been close to a year that I have stepped into a spa. Oh, what I would give for a long, relaxing aromatherapy massage followed by a relaxing laze around in a jacuzzi or hot tub. In fact, I would also welcome the idea of swimming in one of these Hydropool swim spas.  Imagine the good that would do for me!  In what is known as hydrotherapy, water is touted to relax muscles and help us unwind, and with these swim spas, I can kill two birds with one stone: exercise and relax AT the same time!

Life as a Cow September 10, 2007

Sometimes I feel like society thinks that breastfeeding moomies only go shopping when they step out of the house. Is this the reason why nursing rooms are available only in shopping malls? Well, save for the occasional *surprise* we encounter once in a blue moon, most of the time breastfeeding moomies are in a quandary when it comes to finding a good place to feed their babies, whilst out of the house.

Just like when I was in Singapore. The shopping malls had great nursing facilities; private rooms with comfortable nursing chairs, and a separate area for the baby to get changed. Some even had high chairs for baby to be fed comfortably. Soothing music was also piped in for that extra touch of care. This is the reason why I am not deterred by shopping when I am out with Ethan. I have no worries about breastfeeding in the malls!

The convenience vanished the moment I stepped out of a shopping mall. The Singapore Zoo, for one, lacked proper breastfeeding facilities. The diaper changing room was just a board which could be flipped down and baby will then lie on top of it to be changed. For a zoo that is touted as one of the most beautiful zoos in the world, attracting visitors from near and far, having adequate breastfeeding facilities should be of utmost priority, more so because visitors will certainly spend at least half a day there! When I inquired about the existence of a nursing room from the staff, I was met with blank stares. In the end, I had to *just do it* in public, because I had no choice. Actually when Ethan was much much younger, I used to breastfeed in public, and I had no qualms doing so, but now that he is much older, let’s just say a nursing room would be more convenient.

I was put into the same predicament while visiting the Underwaterworld in Singapore. No breastfeeding room, so I had to use the toilet this time. Thankfully there was a *rather* conducive area in the restroom that allowed me to sit down in a somewhat comfortable manner.

So are breastfeeding moomies expected ONLY to go shopping?
