Kill Time with a Portable DVD Player October 5, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Rainmakers , 3comments

Don’t ask me how the topic was brought up, but my hubby and I have decided to watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Yes, again. Our DVDs at home are collecting dust anyway, might as well watch it and be entertained all over again. In any case, I could never ever tire of watching that classic. In fact, I know a lot of the dialogue by heart too. Gandalf going “Fly, you fools!” before falling dramatically to his (what we thought was his) death, the Mines of Moria, Samwise Gamgee and the lembas bread incident and oh, who could forget Smeagol with his *precioussssss…..*.

However, looking at our busy schedule, we may need to look for alternative methods to watch this movie in super quick time. Instead of just confining ourselves to watching it in our home, we can now also watch it on the go! With a portable DVD player, all this is made possible. Just think: no more “I Spy with my Little Eye” games while travelling on the road. I can now immerse myself in a good movie instead! All I will need is this portable 10 inch DVD player, and I am all set to go! Errr… but sorry, if you’re the driver, you gotta keep your eyes peeled to the road!

I could hardly contain my excitement. That’s right… Chicago The Musical is coming to Malaysia! Oh, what I would give to be able to witness this musical on stage. Goodness knows how many times I have replayed the Cell Block Tango portion of my Chicago DVD. Oooh, I love singing along to that song. I would turn the subtitles on and then croon together with those six sexy cellmates as they pranced and danced their way around, telling their story in such a wonderful manner. Isn’t it obvious how much I love to watch it? Some people don’t take too kindly to movies where the cast suddenly burst into song in mid-sentence…but not me, nuh-uh. Every bit of the movie Chicago entertained me to no end. I wonder how ‘All That Jazz’ will be performed on stage. I wonder how much skin they will be allowed to show on ‘Cell Block Tango’. Given that the movie Chicago was adapted from the musical, the musical ought to be miles better, right?

On another note, I wonder what would happen if real life was like that. I mean what if we were all in a board meeting and then suddenly someone stood up and made a proposal, all in a musical rendition. And then when we go to a restaurant, the waiter suddenly rattles off the specials in a singsong manner. Tee hee! Wouldn’t that be hilarious? Or would that be something akin to the Twilight Zone?

Anyhoo. I am just glad the weekend is finally here. I can put the monstrosity of the week that was behind me and look forward to two days of non-work ahead of me. Our weekend starts after work on Friday, when we take Ethan out to dinner in Queensbay Mall. Then it’s back home to rest and relax. Oh, there’s another wedding dinner to attend on Sunday too. Which means I need to finalize my attire. *grins*

Musings on a Wednesday October 3, 2007

Is it just me or is my to-do list never ever gonna end? The past week or so has seen some dramatic changes to my work and of course, with these changes, come greater responsibilities. Hence, you will notice that I am beginning to lag behind on the blogging front. I now maintain three blogs, all of which hold a different kind of special place in my heart. I endeavor to update these three blogs on a regular basis, but it certainly looks as if this plan will have to be amended. I sincerely hope not, though.

In addition, I am working on personal project, of which I cannot divulge details until it is completed. But progress, I’m afraid, is moving at a snail’s pace. SIGH… I’m not giving up just yet because I know that when I reap the rewards, they will be so enriching.

I am however very proud that yesterday, I managed to squeeze in some time to finally participate in Pelf’s month-long blogging campaign on environment-related issues @ The Giving Hands as a guest blogger. Procrastination has not gotten me anywhere in this campaign, so I was mighty glad that at the mid-point of the campaign, I finally put up a post on something I feel strongly about.

Oh, and one more thing…for those of you who are observant enough, I’ve also decided to go PINK for October, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For starters, I am subtlely changing the orange portions of my site to PINK and putting the “Pink for October” logo on my sidebar. I hope to be able to further pinkify my site soon.

Cheong Cheong Kau Kau Month of Awards October 2, 2007

September came and went in a blink of an eye. It was a month of change, at least for me, but it was also a month of awards. September brought with it a flurry of awards that spread through the blogosphere almost as fast as the blogivitis itself.

First, Chinnee gave me the Creative Blogger award. She says it is because my blog posts have the “oomph!” factor. Hmmm… I wonder if the “oomph!” factor is because I drone onandon sometimes and complain about things that happen to me in a *creative* manner? Is it because of the food pictures I put up on some of my posts? Because if that’s the reason, then it was completely worth it asking my meal companions to wait “just a sec” while I get that perfect angle that would show off how tasty the food is. Or is it because occasionally I would spurt a poem on some random topic? Well, whatever the reason, merci beaucoup for the award :)

Then Pinkelle made me smile when she told me I made her smile! Awww…. she’s so sweet, ain’t she? With a sugary-sounding name like that, of course she is! She just celebrated her birthday last Friday too! Happy belated birthday, dear Pinkelle!

And then just when I thought things could not get any better, the Genie King swung by to let me know that I am totally fabulous! Whee! September is indeed a rewarding month. I feel like I just attended the Oscars.

So if you’re reading this, I’m giving all of those awards to you too, just because I can!

Edited: I have been overwhelmed! You guys are just TOO sweet! I forgot that my good gal pal Rinnah also thinks I am fabulous! Hehe… I think you’re fab yourself too, Rinnah!

Click and Choose Dining Furniture October 2, 2007

When my hubby and I were furnishing our apartment, we would spend hours on end just finding the right furniture for it. Our forte is attention to detail, so we would willingly visit shop after shop just so we get exactly what we had in mind. We took a long time to decide on our dining furniture; if we wanted a round or rectangular table, wood or marble and also what kind of chairs to go with it.

Had we known we could shop for furniture online at Wholesale Furniture Brokers, and save a lot of money on shipping and taxes in the process, we would have done so! What’s more, we can compare so many different models and not even have to leave our home to do so! Just a few clicks and that piece of furniture will be delivered to the door. Psst… I can even blog on the side!

Round and Yummy All Around October 1, 2007

I still don’t get why this donut place is called Big Apple. Not that I noticed any big ones around also. And I don’t think there were any apple-flavored donuts too.. but I finally managed to locate this place in The Curve when I was there 2 weekends ago. You’ve gotta try them, enthused Hijack Queen and Rinnah…. My plan was to try out these donuts when I was in The Curve in August but silly me, I forgot the name of the place and since I could not contact those 2 who recommended them to me, I had to tell my craving to wait. Until 2 weeks ago.

I gave Rinnah a call right before I hopped over to Big Apple. And she told me which flavors were good. So I got (bottom picture, clockwise from top left): Cocoring (Belgian chocolate - I chose this because the thought of Belgian chocolate melting in my mouth was just dreamy), Glacier (glazed sugar), Banana Rama (middle portion had a dollop of really sweet banana-flavored cream), California Almond (Almond flakes), Green Teaser (recommended by Rinnah; this one had green tea-flavored cream), Cool Blue (with blueberry jam).

I only had them when I got back to Penang, zapped them in the microwave first of course. Although most of the donuts were a tad sweet, I would have to give the thumbs up to the California Almond, Cocoring and the Banana Rama. I especially like the California Almond because it tasted somewhat savory, which was kinda different for a donut, I’ll have to admit. The Green Teaser did not taste as “green tea” as I expected.

But that being said, the taste of the donuts could have been marred by the fact that I did not eat them fresh. Would I go back again? I would say yes, but I would not go out of my way to get them…although I could very well do with one of those California Almond donuts now. :)

Retiring, Travelling… that’s Life! October 1, 2007

A friend of mine has his retirement planned to a tee. He told me that when all his kids grow up and leave the nest, and he has attained his golden years, he wants to go travelling with his wife. That’s what most senior citizens are doing these days actually. With every Matta fair that comes our way, I see throngs of senior citizens booking holiday packages with their families, China being one of the more popular destinations.

If I owned a travel company, I would up the ante on the competition by bundling in travel insurance for the elderly in the holiday package. I bet that would be certainly be attractive, because not only would the traveller feel secure whilst on holiday, it is definitely hard to find insurance companies who are willing to insure the elderly folk. Of course, I hope that I too will have the opportunity to travel far and wide when I get the title of “senior citizen”, which by the way is a LONG time to go still. *wink*
