Woohoo…I Rawk! July 27, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging, Memes & Tags , 13comments

During my recent Singapore vacation, I was thoroughly touched that my loyal blog readers were still reading my blog, despite my absence.  I have been so bogged down with work after my return that I have hardly had time to blog as often as I would love to, let alone do my customary blog-hopping and blog-commenting.  Therefore I was incredibly honored when I discovered that Paris had bestowed this wonderful award to me, effectively naming me as a Rockin’ Girl Blogger.  Yeah baby!

So many others have been awarded and I am proud to join in the ranks and wear this badge on my site too!  Who cares what the criteria is to be given this award, as long as I have been given it…hehe….

And in the spirit of true rockin’ girl blogger-ism, I shall award this badge to 5 more rockin’ girl bloggers.  Congratulations, ladies! (sorry, guys not included in this award…hehe):

Remember to wear this badge proudly on your site! :D

Sharing some Linky Love July 6, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging, Memes & Tags , 5comments

After a long hiatus from memes and tags, the king is BACK! I think I was tagged by him before on this same one but I will oblige since I like to spread the linky love around!

*****

1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.

2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.

3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.

4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW is using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!

The Giddy Association of Fans July 3, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging, Memes & Tags , 12comments

As part of the initiation program of the latest elite club in the blogosphere, two of the infamous members of this club have requested ever-so-nicely that I confirm my membership by participating in a blog association post. It’s a tag, really. And since I originally intended for these two pretty young ladies to be in my association list, I will include their spinning and fluffing blogs in my tag too, in addition to five other blogs of course! I will choose the one-leg-kick method May used, listing my fan-sees/huan-choos/potato heads as well as describe what I associate their blogs with. I know there are others out there who are lurkers on my blog, but hey, I don’t know who you are if you don’t speak up! Heh heh…I have blog statistics you know, and when the number of unique visits don’t match the number of comments, I *know* how to put two and two together.

So! Presenting here …. The Giddy Association of Fans:

When I think of Rinnah, I think of Micah Sanders. A gifted boy with an amazing ability to *talk* to machines, Micah is one of the Heroes on the popular TV series. It appears that Rinnah is my serial blog stalker. No sooner have I posted a blog post, she would be one of the first to leave a comment, most of the time almost immediately. Lately she has also been leaving her mark on Ethan’s blog too. Girl, you amaze me with your commenting speed. Maybe she can *talk* to machines just like Micah can? Rinnah’s blog has never bored me, on the contrary, I find all her posts very refreshing, including her paid posts. By the way, she only charges a minimum of USD5 on her paid reviews, which I feel is spoiling the market for us. :P

The word Paris conjures up images depicting glamour. Paris is also the city of romance. And I definitely know Paris can cook. But at the mention of Paris Beaverbanks, I immediately think of what a good writer she is. Of course, modern writers write with a computer or laptop, if you may. This girl can spew ideas like nobody’s business. And she does it with confidence and class too! I like her style of writing as well as the neat appearance of her website. It is such a joy to visit her site and such a joy to comment on it as well. Oh and of course, she leaves comments on mine too, that’s why she’s listed here.

~♥~

Gallivanter’s blog reeks of music and specifically Bon Jovi. Shot down in a Blaze of Glory…So that’s something we have in common. When my hubby and I were still in the boy-chase-girl stage of our relationship, we went for the Bon Jovi concert in Shah Alam Stadium and had a rockin’ time! Gallivanter’s blog does fantastic music reviews and also provides lyrics to boot. His music taste should not differ much from mine, since we both think Bon Jovi rawks big time. Apart from this, Gallivanter has brought up some thought-provoking topics in his blog posts too. Topics ranging from celebrity adoptions to abusive partners never fail to entertain me when I read.

~♥~

The gatekeeper to The Hug Hug Club. The Emperor with 48 Concubines. Or simply known as just LB. Whichever name he goes by, I will always associate LB with a delicious serving of pasta. And if I ever make a trip to Italy, I know LB will be able to recommend the best pasta there. I am a pasta lover and Italy, being the home of pasta (and of course that’s what LB hails from too), will certainly be able to fulfill my cravings. Another one of my serial commentors, LB’s blog traffic is incredulous! Interesting posts, chupping and whatnot, coupled with eye-catching pictures make for a delightful and giddy read indeed.

~♥~

Little Miss May reminds me of a bottle of red wine. Wine which is exotically smooth in texture and exuding a tempting aroma. Maybe it’s because her blog has so many fantastic pictures. Maybe it’s because of the way she writes. Or maybe it’s because she stays so near Hunter Valley….. hehehe…

~♥~

I recently embarked on a new hobby: scrapping. And it’s all because of Huisia. She was kind enough to send me some links to get me started (and addicted) to scrapping. I’ll be honest…when I first saw a lot of blogs with these online collages, I seriously thought these bloggers actually used pretty papers, clips, ribbons and all those materials, made a collage out of it and then snapped a picture of the finished product. Yeah, I was THAT disillusioned! Well, now I know better that it’s not done that way! Huisia is also someone who is addicted to blogging, even finding the time and trouble to visit cybercafés to get her blogging done, all this while she is already on the verge of delivering a baby!

~♥~

And last but certainly not in the very least, we have the Simple American. Simply an American. I associate his blog with 12 to Midnight, which is the name the gaming company he founded. A self-professed gamer and (I presume) an expert in World of Warcraft, I also equate his blog to many other things, like dice, SA’s ability to write engagingly well, leaving me gripping the edges of my seat in eager anticipation and of course, the King of Memes. Who could forget that? I read all his memes in its entirety. SA was one of the first commentors on my blog, and always has something to say about everything.

~♥~

There you have it. My homework done. I think most of the people I have listed have already done this tag, so you are ALL excused, unless you EFND and want to do it all over again. Well, I think one of you has not done it yet….you know who you are, so I’ll leave it up to you. This is a free country after all.

An SOB - that’s what I am! July 2, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging , 14comments

While having lunch with my hubby today, he asked me if I was aware that I am officially an SOB now. *Blink blink* No, I was not insulted, because it was not the SOB in the rude sense, rather what he meant was that I had been awarded the title Official SOB by Liz Strauss in her 88th week installment of SOB awards. Being called an SOB, which by the way stands for Successful and Outstanding Blogger is such a honor! Woohoo! Thanks Liz for giving me this badge of achievement.

I started blogging about a year ago when my sole intent was to chronicle the development of my boy, Ethan. But by and by, the blogging bug bit me real hard and I rediscovered a love for writing when I kicked off my personal blog early this year. The more I write, I more I wanted to write… yes, it was THAT addictive! Besides improving my writing skills and getting the message across, I had the opportunity to sharpen my photography skills too…..whatever skills that were present, make that. On top of it all, getting interesting comments on every one of my posts really made my day, and hey…that told me that there were actually PEOPLE out there that cared enough to read what I wrote and tell me what they thought!

So getting called an SOB is really an achievement in itself. Thanks to Liz, I shall proudly wear this badge of honor on my site now. And if you would like to know how to get yourself called an SOB, do check out the details here.

The Face Behind The Blog June 29, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging, Memes & Tags , 28comments

Being the ever so blur person I am, I was not even aware that I had been tagged. In fact, it was my hubby who informed me that I had been tagged by Miriguy. But anyway, this is a simple meme (which originated from UK, according to my research) that allows the blogger to put a face to the name. I know there are some bloggers who are too camera-shy to reveal their faces, though. But anyway, since I have already posted a few pictures of myself on the blog, let’s do this one with a twist, shall we?

There… here’s the face behind this blog… taken way back when… *sneaks off to reminisce*

I’m not tagging anyone else on this, but if y’all would like to share your pictures, do let me know so that I can go sneak a peek!

I’ve got Blogivitis and it’s contagious! June 15, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging, Memes & Tags , 15comments

The dreaded blogivitis has infected me
Courtesy of germs from Miss ParisB
There’s no known cure and certainly no vaccine
I’ve really got it bad, let me tell you what I mean…

The disease has made me obsessed with photography
Cuz every thing imaginable is always blogworthy
My favorites are pictures of food I’ve eaten
Like the roti pisang I had, which tasted like a meal from heaven!

Blogivitis made me re-explore photo editing
To showcase pretty pictures for a more pleasurable viewing
Learning from a si-mou, a si-fu and an expert down under
I’m constantly improving, thanks to all my “masters”!

The Google Reader is my trusted friend
A mandatory source which I can depend
I totally rely on it for my blog-hopping journey
Subscribing to feeds, there’s no such thing as too many!

Blogivitis has made me more organized
My RSS feeds are now grouped and systemized
This allows speedy reading and efficient commenting
Every second is a breeze, I’m certainly not complaining!

I live on comments, I find something to say
I simply need to leave at least some comments each day
I get all excited when new comments come my way
It shows my efforts are really starting to pay!

I suddenly find myself behaving rather strangely
Things that previously I would never ever be
The disease forced me to upgrade to an N73
Now I don’t have excuses like “My camera’s not with me!”

And if I do spot an interesting tag
I’d wish and wish for it to be in my bag
I’d even start drafting what I would write
Just in case I get tagged; you never know, I just might!

Now, my days all revolve around blogging
Although my mind’s a blank, I’ll think of something
The blogging ideas are kept in my head
And stay right in there even when I go to bed!

I get my dose of the latest news feed
Not from the papers, but from blogs I read
News on blogs , they spread like wildfire
I get the scoop hot on the wire!

And lastly the symptom that proves I’ve contracted it
Is when my lunch, I will willingly forfeit
Just to crack my brains over long detailed poetry
In order to fulfill a meme as a blog entry!

The following people will now be infected
I give you Blogivitis, so now you’re affected
Pink Cotton, Aikie and the Hijack Queen
Angeleyes and of course, how could I forget Jazzmint!

Sotong Blur is as Sotong Gets June 11, 2007

Lately I have the weirdest feeling that I am getting blurrer and blurrer…I might as well have the sign “D’oh!” fixed to my head.  You tell me if I am hallucinating…

I blogged that I was a Liverpudlian, but my hubby promptly reminded me that I should be referred to a s Kopite.  So I had to add a clarification to the end of that post.

I blogged that I had never before tasted the pancake dessert when I had attended weddings in Penang, but my loyal blog reader aka my hubby told me that he had been to weddings in Penang with me and we had tasted it before.  For the life of me, I can’t remember doing so.  I can only remember the cold honeydew sago dessert.

This morning I went to the vending machine to get a drink of hot Milo.  I put in a 50 cent coin followed by a 10 cent coin, but that machine swallowed my money!  I banged and banged the machine in my most feminine manner possible but the machine simply would not regurgitate the coins.  I should have waited to see if the 50 cent coin could be detected before continuing with the 10 cent coin….then again, I should have put the 10 cent coin in first. *shrugs*

My hubby and I went back home just now for lunch, and as we were about to leave the house, I took a paper bag I had wanted to throw away, walked outside and *patiently* waited for my hubby to lock the door.  As he was locking the grille door, he looked at the paper bag and asked me what that was for.  I told him I wanted to throw it away (the waste collection room was just right outside our apartment).  My hubby paused for effect :P  And I sheepishly went to throw it away.

But although I self-profess that I am blur, I am not one to make empty promises.  So I am living up to my word and affirming my participation in MY List by providing here the list of all the blogs who are also in the same geng:

Painting with Words June 8, 2007

Are you blogging using Blogspot because it is free?  And do you keep using it because you think it is the only free blogging platform that offers the opportunity to make money via advertisements and paid posts?  Do you kick yourself silly with all the Blogspot quirks like the inability to publish your posts or frequent problems where your commentors are unable to comment?  I should know, I was formerly using Blogspot too…  Do you wish you could experience the effectiveness of Wordpress for free but not be bogged down by the ruling that you are not allowed adverts and paid posts on your blog?

Well, guess what…I recently found out about a great blogging platform that has the functionalities and feel of Wordpress, but allows advertisements and paid posts!  I kid you not… And yes, it is FREE!  Called Rainbow of Words, it is both simple to use and elegant.  When a friend of mine recently wanted to start blogging, his first choice of a blogging platform forced me to register when I wanted to drop a comment, so I gave him the thumbs down - nobody wants the extra hassle of registering just to say a few words.  So he scouted around for another platform and found Rainbow of Words.  It is functional does its job to the tee.  What more could a blogger ask for?

Eliminate the Middle-Man May 25, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging, Rainmakers , 3comments

This just in: PayPerPost has announced the launch of PPP Direct!  This is really something us posties should get excited about, because now not only will we get paid to blog, we would also open the door of opportunity for advertisers to approach us directly to blog about their products.  Aptly named Part One of the Birdo Release, the advertiser now gets to contact the blogger if they like the way they write and would like them to write about their products.  This really eliminates the involvement of the PayPerPost as the middleman.  What does this all mean?  In essence, bloggers will get more for the hard work they put in.  PPP Direct charges only a fee of a mere 10%, 5% of which goes into transaction fees for PayPal and credit card processing.  Compare this to a competitor who actually charges an exorbitant 50-100% markup and end up keeping half of your hard-earned money!  See the difference?  No prizes for guessing which is the smart way to go!

All you need to do is to have the PPP Direct badge installed on your site, and before you know it, relevant advertisers will come knocking on your door.  This is definitely a win-win situation.  You get paid to blog about the things you love, while ensuring the safety and security of this spectacular service, all provided to you by PPP.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go jump on the bandwagon and get that PPP Direct badge on my site pronto!

Show me my money, PLEASE! May 23, 2007

So my virtual cash in PayPal is still stuck despite the many complaints I had lodged with their support desk.  Of course they replied, but with the generic “We are aware of the matter and are looking into resolving the technical glitch as best we can”… or something to that effect.  Looks like it is a MAJOR problem.  I know of a few people who have used the workaround method to claim their funds, and I won’t go into details here because I have reason to believe there are plenty of other bloggers who have blogged about it already.  My 30-day deadline on my unclaimed funds in PayPal is fast approaching and in desperation, I logged a support ticket with PayPerPost last night.  I received a reply within an hour and I was informed that PPP is well aware of the situation and in fact, they are currently in contact with PayPal too - getting the same response I got, I believe!  But…PPP gave me HOPE!  They claimed that if need be, PPP would be able to resend the unclaimed funds to the affected posties’ accounts, because they had a record of all unclaimed funds.  I certainly hope this is true.  But for sanity’s sake, I hope that PayPal would once and for all solve that massive pain of a glitch.  That would make us all sleep better.

And now…let me go prepare for the clash in Athens tonight :)

You’ll Never Walk Alone…
