“Like that also can ah..?” January 21, 2008
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 15commentsOf course can lah! When Simon talks, the world listens. And when he tags me, I do the tag. As fast as I can, no questions asked. Maiden tag, samo, you know.
What is your blogging name?
giddy tiger, or if I am veering on the wilder side… giddy tigress. Roooooarrrrrrllllll!!
When did you start blogging, exact date?
July 9th 2006. That’s the date of my first post, although it was really written a few days later than that. It wasn’t for this blog though, but for Ethan’s blog.
What was your first title?
You mean the title of my first post? That would be “Roll Over!” to commemorate the day Ethan made a successful roll over
Which posting do you feel is the best post so far?
I honestly don’t know, and I try my best to inject something unique into every post I publish.
Who promotes/is the source of inspiration for you to blog?
Well, it started with Ethan, so he is my inspiration… and of course, he still is.. For my personal blog, anything and everything that gets my mind working is a blogging inspiration.
When dya usually post entries?
Any time I get an entry ready. Any time inspiration hits.
Where would you prefer to be when you are blogging?
Sitting by a pristine lake, with only the sound of chirping birds to accompany me and my laptop, and the smell of nature to tease my senses… oh assuming this place has wi-fi coverage.
Have you met other bloggers? Who?
Some of my colleagues blog and I have bumped into several others in the malls. Most of the bloggers I know by voice or email only.
How many entries you made in a month?
In this blog? About 2-3 entries a week, more if I am industrious and hardworking enough.
Would you reveal your face or your family in your blog? Why?
Yes, I would because I would like people to connect the moniker to a face. I don’t do it all the time though.
Would you promote your friends to blog? Why?
If they approach me about blogging, I would encourage them to. Otherwise, I won’t go out of the way to promote blogging to them.
Would you feel restless/guilty conscious/incomplete if you didn’t blog for a month?
A month???!!! I don’t know if I can last that long without blogging now. For example, if I took a picture of the latest Chinese New Year deco in Queensbay Mall, I would wanna publish it pronto, now wouldn’t I?

Pssssstttt… don’t you think the CNY deco in Queensbay resembles the Christmas deco a month ago, only in a different color? Anyway….I’m, sidetracking here…
Define blogging.

Now, what say you, fellow blogging friends?

Giddy cauldron broils over January 7, 2008

So yum. So tantalizing. So seriously non-halal. So giddy. So tau-ewe-bak (soy sauce with pork), with some fat in all the right places. So watercress soup and so nai pai chye (that’s what I know it is called). That was our lunch at home on a fine Saturday afternoon.
One of my New Year resolutions to cook more often certainly has got off to a grand start. Makes it easier when I can afford to work from home Fridays. This way, I get to do some quick marketing at the nearby mini market on Friday morning and then prepare the stuff to cook a day before Saturday. And it looks like this system is working out pretty well.
Having a homecooked meal allows us time for a lazy afternoon siesta too. But last Saturday, I had nothing of that sort. While the two boys, with their tummies satisfied and full, slept soundly, John Grisham’s The Innocent Man kept me hanging on to every word. Finished reading the spectacular book and will be embarking on another novel soon, either Picoult or Kinsella. Flip coin?

Oh yeah, so this brings me to the New Year Resolution tag from Wen. Yes, I do make New Year resolutions, but I’m afraid I tend to fall into the *flippant* category. But I am determined to carry them through this year… see, I am already on the right track
I sincerely hope I can keep this up… it’s only January!
*Start Copy Here*
When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions we seem to fall into four categories: 1) quite serious about them, 2) be flippant about them, 3) do it because we feel pressured to, or 4) do not do them.
So, the purpose of this little game is to let us know which category you are in. Copy from “*Start Copy Here*” through “*End Copy Here*” and post it. Before “*End Copy Here*” tell us who you are, your site(s) (with link) and your New Year’s Resolution, or not.
Then tag as many others as you like, from one to your entire blogroll, your choice.
If you like, create an intro paragraph to your post that also acknowledges who tagged you.
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS:
Juliana – Juliana’s Site - My New Year’s resolutions are looking for a part time job, keep blogging, and learn to cook and bake.
Michelle - Rusin Roundup - 1. Learn to be happier and accept myself for who I am, 2. Is to lose about 25 lbs., and 3. Is to stop smoking.
Karen - Grow Rich Along With Me - My resolution for next year is to achieve $3K per month passive income by the end of 2008.
Mel - Attitude, the Ultimate Power & Complain Complain Complain - “I don’t need no stinking resolutions.” I never hold to them anyway so why frustrate myself by starting them now.
Sandee - Comedy Plus - I don’t need no stinking resolutions either. Years and years ago I did them because everyone else did, but not once did I follow through. Why set yourself up for failure?
Lynda - lynda’s loft - My resolution is to see resolve to that which needs resolution. Like Mel and Sandee, I feel that resolutions give us more stress, however, being a person who sets goals each year, isn’t that the same thing as a resolution??? Goals vs. resolutions? Goals are more general and allow for more time to complete them, a resolution requires a mind-set and immediate action, which is not always feasible… Well, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it…
Amelia - Amel’s Realm - This is a list of my New Year’s Resolution:
1. Health: Continue exercising twice a week, eat enough veggies and fruit, have enough rest, take vitamin C regularly and women’s multivitamin during my period.
2. Spiritual: Improve my Daily Bread reading routine and my prayer life and learn more from God’s Word.
3. Financial: Continue to make money online (my goal is getting €100 per month at least), be more creative in writing posts, and save most of the money.
4. General Life: Continue to learn Finnish AND practice it as best and often as I can, try out more baking and cooking recipes, continue to maintain and share positive thoughts, continue to learn to control my thoughts, continue to learn to catch myself before I start complaining and count my blessings instead, continue to stop and cherish all the little moments in life that oftentimes go unnoticed, and continue to feed my inner child and last but not least, continue to ENJOY my life thoroughly.
Trinity - Rooms of My Heart : My New Year’s resolutions in simple and fast way will be blog less and spend more time with my children and read more good books. I want to start studying about global warming and blog it…
Max - MAX - My New Year’s resolutions are to dedicate more time to my friends; to finally be able to read “Der Spiegel” in German; to be calm when organizing my marriage; to go one last time to my favourite club and dance the night away; and continue to be happy!
Eric - Speedcat Hollydale - I love chicken. Problem is that I really never get to have enough chicken! My New Year’s resolution is to enact “Chicken Tuesday”. On this day I will eat only chicken, blog about chicken, and promote chickens all over the world. (hormone free) Join me, won’t you?
Marzie - Mariuca & Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery - My resolution for 2008 is to enjoy a healthier lifestyle and to expand my Perfume Collection.
Sindi- Life Is A Roller Coaster - My resolution is to complain less, pray more and be a little more thankful for what I have.
Judy - Sugar Queen’s Dream - My New Year’s resolution is:
To take better care of my health.
To eat better, well at least 3 meals a day, I’m lucky these days if I stop for one meal a day….
To help make the world a better place to live, I love the human race, but think there’s always room for change.
To be generous until it hurts.
To live each day as if it’s my last.
To make a book of our personal family recipes and traditions for each of my 3 my children, so that the traditions and family cooking can be passed on in my family line long after I’m gone and finally…….
To help more with the local Human society, Animals like little kids can not fend for themselves so it’s up to each of us to take care of our pets and to step in and care for all animals…..
I hope that through me I can encourage my Children to be better adults and in turn to raise the Children they have or will have, to be good people with good, sound & solid values…. Peace!
Adrian - First Time Dad - My New Year’s Resolution for 2008 is to be a better father…now I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions because I never keep them but this one I better keep! Happy New Year to one and all!
Colin - Life - New Years Resolution? No way…Better to achieve more throughout the year rather than pander to the whims of a one day ‘wishful thought’
Mauro - 1 Million Love Messages - My resolution for next year are: 1. Change my job (maybe work online). I’m really unhappy in the actual one. 2. Dedicate more time to my family and girlfriend… maybe start to get ready for our wedding
3. Work hard in 1 Million Love Messages and reach 2500 Love messages (or more) in the end of 2008.
MidgetManOfSteel - Mental Poo - To get out of dealing with people who I have no desire in helping at the job I’m doing…catch the eye of someone who can see that I can write and be funny…and get my own ticket to happiness from my humor….and a Ferrari. While I’m doing this, I resolve to get a Ferrari.
Stacy - My Thoughts - My New Year’s Resolution for 2008 - Is to be more understanding to my children and to other people, Not to curse at others while I am driving, try to eat right and exercise, try to volunteer in my community, and to believe more in my spiritual side.
Jason - DatCurious.com & DatMoney.com - Although, I normally don’t do New Year’s Resolutions (because I find it as an excuse to actually do something I should’ve already been doing), this year I will plan on giving back to the blogging community, especially my audience. I’m not sure how I will do it yet, but I definitely will.
Kesa - Little Aussie Cynic - My New Years Resolution is the standard….. to finally get off the smokes and to loose 8kg…. both which are possible just difficult…..Happy New Year to you and yours….Aussie
Ann - A Nice Place in the Sun - “To let the rest of my life begin as soon as possible.”
Wen - Little Paces - I want to sleep early to reduce my haggard and tired complexion. To blog better than last year and hopefully can save money from paid post so that we can immigrate to Australia. To spend more time with my children. To be able to bake.
Giddy Tiger - Giddy Tigers - I resolve to fulfill my resolutions to cook more often, to reignite my reading hobby and to spend more time with my loved ones and with God.

I’ll be home for Christmas.. December 27, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Close to Heart & Home, Memes & Tags, Relax & Celebrate , 18comments
First off, a very merry and blessed Christmas to everyone who has taken the trouble to wish me and my family good tidings for the festive season! May peace, goodwill and God’s blessings be with all of you throughout the coming New Year! And now here’s my Christmas story…
Right before I scooted off for the Christmas holidays, I received an early Christmas present in the form of a tag from Healy. Initially I had planned on getting it done before Christmas but that didn’t materialize, owing to inevitable circumstances.
The Saturday before Christmas, my brother and his wife came to Penang for a visit, so we took them to the E&O for lunch. Well well, whaddya know… they were serving fresh oysters on the buffet spread! It had been ages since I had indulged in oysters so I wolfed down half a dozen…and a couple more. But that turned out to be a disastrous decision because in the afternoon, I felt really giddy and had to take a long afternoon siesta. Woke up with a fever of 37.9°C, took two Paracetamol tablets and prayed the fever would go down down down. I was still nursing a slight cough then too, and so I proceeded to make myself a cup of warm Manuka honey with lemon.

After dinner, my head was really heavy and I went to bed as soon as I can. I felt better in the morning: fever had subsided but my whole body was aching all over. Then in the afternoon, my tummy was grumbling, tossing and turning. Evening came and dealt me a severe blow of stomach flu. Although I felt weak and dehydrated, I still had to pack for our road trip the next day.
Anyway, Christmas eve in Taiping and then Christmas day in my hometown of Ipoh was a rollercoaster of *thinking* I was getting better and then making an about-turn for the worst. All these amid the gift exchanges, fruit cake and red wine. My lower back was also hurting so bad I had to lie down as often as I could. Not a very easy feat to do with a toddler who demands your attention at all times, I tell you…
Finally, I woke up on Boxing Day feeling way better than I had felt in days. Up till now, I don’t know if it were the oysters that caused it because hubbs took them too and he felt fine. But thank goodness, I felt good enough on the 26th to savor the famous Ipoh kai-see-hor-fun, with lots and lots of kow-choy. Wouldn’t have missed that for a thing, even though we had to take turns carrying Ethan whilst eating because the shop did not have any baby chairs available. After lunch it was back to Penang, where more Christmas presents awaited us, well most of them were for Ethan actually. Two more Christmas cards arrived in the mailbox; a handmade one from Mei Lee and a card with a cute gift in it from Rinnah. Thank you darlings! You gals rock!

So today it is back to the humdrum of work. The past week of battling illness has worn me out so much that I booked myself a facial today, just so I could get some me-time in the equation. And so, after my longwinded story of how I spent Christmas, here’s the Christmas tag, as promised. Still done within the 12 days of Christmas… hehe… so enough about me… how was YOUR Christmas?
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot Chocolate… because I don’t even know what egg nog tastes like.
2. Does Santa wrap the presents or just sit them under the tree? Methinks his elves wrap the presents. Santa just delivers them, no?
3. Colored or white lights? Whitish amber lights. And blinking ones.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Not this year, but I would love to. Next year, perhaps?
5. When do you put your decorations up? I already did… two weeks ago. And they are still up…maybe till after New Year comes and goes.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Mom’s homecooked food.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Spending Christmas with my family, writing long lists of presents for Santa and hoping he’ll bring them
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I can’t remember… but I really really thought I heard him and his sleigh on the roof some Christmases ago.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Nah…it has to be past midnight, i.e. really really Christmas.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? With my bare hands, and of course, this year, with silver and blue ornaments.
11. Snow: Love it or hate it? Love love love! But must have awesome boots to parade in la.
12. Can you ice skate? Not if you call skating falling on my butt! O-U-C-H!!
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? The gift of salvation, when I was baptized on Christmas day many many years ago.
14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Spreading love and cheer to everyone dear.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Cheese cake, with a strawberry on top. Had it at the E&O that fateful day… no strawberry on top of that one though.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Singing Christmas carols together as a family.
17. What is on top of your tree? A silver star

18. Which do you like best giving or receiving? Both. I also like shopping
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Away in a Manger, O Little Town of Bethlehem, The Christmas Song, O Holy Night…okay, I love all the Christmas songs…
20. Do you like candy canes? Not really, but I’ll take them if I get them
Sending Christmas cheer, peace and goodwill in the form of a tag to Rinnah!… also because she announced she is tag-free! hehe…

There’s an old popular game called 20 Questions where the questionee thinks of something and the questioner asks the questionee 20 questions answerable by a Yes or No just so he can guess what the object the questionee is thinking about. In fact, you can even play this game online now. I tried it just now, and heh heh… I won! That site was not able to guess what I was thinking of. Ahh…the little things that make me glad.
The 20-Question tag that Paik Ling and Chinnee have tagged me with however, is nothing like the 20-Question game. But it is an interesting one nonetheless.
Instructions:
Remove 1 question from below, and add in your personal question, make it a total of 20 questions, then tag 8 people in your list, list them out at the end of this post. Notify them in their chat box that he/she has been tagged. Whoever does this tag will have the blessing from all.
1. What puts an instant smile on your face? The sight of Ethan with his cheeky grin

2. What color do you like the most? Blue, for now. I have no idea why I chose a red backdrop for my blog for Christmas though. It was just a spur of the moment thingy..
3. You like rainy or sunny day? Why? Rainy days in bed, under the covers, listening to the pattering of raindrops outside. Because I just do.
4. Where is the place that you want to go the most? Why? I want to go home now… Because I just do.
5. Which part of you that you hate the most? My Beyonce-looking hips, but they help me dance to Bootilicious, no?
6. When you encounter a sad moment, what would you do? I’d most probably cry a little and then try to talk it out to get it off my chest.
7. What is it that you are afraid to lose the most? The people I care about and love.
8. If you win $1 million, what would you do? Scream out in bewilderment, then pengsan, and when I come to, I will do these things.
9. If you meet someone that you love, would you confess to him/her? Or would you keep it to yourself and observe from afar? Definitely confess. And make a big deal out of it.
10. List out 3 good points of the person who tagged you. These three traits are common ones for both Paik Ling and Chinnee: Amicable, devoted and have great smiles!
11. What are the requirements that you wish for your other half? He must have a sense of humor, must understand me through and through and must know what YATTTTAAAAA means.
12. Till now, what is the moment that you regret the most? Not being able to spend as much time with Ethan as I would love to because I am still a full-time working mom.
13. Which type of person that you hate the most? Hypocrites.
14. What is your ambition? I’ve said it countless times already. To be a SAHM.
15. What is the thing that will make you think he/she is bad? If he/she does not keep to his/her word.
16. If you can have 1 dream to come true, what would it be? To attain financial freedom, so I don’t have to work anymore.
17. Christmas is coming, who do you like to celebrate with? Of course with my family and loved ones, and if possible with a well-roasted stuffed turkey.
18. What do you think it’s the most important thing in your life? Love. (”And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” ~1 Corinthians 13:13~)
19. If you have a choice to choose your gender, which would you choose to be? I would choose to remain a woman, because as a woman, I get to experience childbirth, and that is the most fulfilling experience in the world, pain not included.
20. My question: What is your perfect theme song, based on this quizlet? Don’t Cha by Pussycat Dolls

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags, Parenting & Motherhood , 8commentsBeing a parent poses many challenges. But through these challenges, I have learnt countless things. Among others, parenthood has made me learn how to survive on only 2-3 hours of interrupted sleep at night, how to eat things really quickly, specifically to feed myself and my kid at the same time and how to maintain a balanced family life. Parenthood has also made me a more tolerant person. I have to keep my cool at all times… okay, at MOST times. But I have to admit that it is an ongoing learning process, and I hope to better myself day after day. Ethan is already a toddler now and judging by his personality and behaviour, I know for a fact that I will have to face the issue of disciplining him soon. Like *really* soon.
There are so many methods of disciplining a child nowadays, and I think some methods work better on certain kids, more so than others. My good girl friend told me that she eventually had to use the cane on her son although she thought she wouldn’t have to initially. I sure do not want a repeat of what she went through. So when Jacelyn asked what my plan for disciplining kids is, I can certainly say that I do not intend to use the cane, preferring instead to use reason. Well, I might be forced to change my mind in future, but at this moment, this is what I am feeling. I am hoping that by the time Ethan learns how to communicate effectively with my hubby and me, we would be able to instill some form of discipline through reasoning and understanding. Threatening to use the cane and not following through on that threat is meaningless, so that option is totally out for me. As far as I am concerned, my ultimate priority would be to be firm and make my child understand and realize what he did was wrong, and to ensure he knows I was not happy with what he did. I would probably utilize the Super Nanny approved toddler “time out” chair method to make my child reflect on what he did, to learn the meaning of “sorry” and to promise never to do it again.
I’m wondering if Paik Ling shares my sentiments…

I hope and reminisce on all things dear
There are so many things I wish and pray
That they’ll come true at the end of the day!
What do I look forward to at the end of the year 2007? Rinnah has gotten me thinking big time and she has certainly gone round sprinkling the Christmas spirit all over me here. See those lovely snowflakes that adorn my blog? Sui boh? Nah, it doesn’t snow here in Malaysia, but now with the simple installation of a plugin, I made it snow snow snow on Giddy Tigers! I wonder if I can build a snowman too … now on with the tag:
This year end, I look forward to:
- More quality time spent with my family
- (Hopefully) roasting a turkey on my own (Note to self: need to go hunt for a recipe)
- Buying a new Christmas tree for my home (and also a wreath!)
- Completing my Christmas shopping WAY before Christmas eve
- Holidays!!! (read:no work)
- Another round of dressing up to the nines!
- Finish reading my John Grisham novel
- More YATTAAAAAA-ing with Heroes!
- The completion of my digital scrapbook
- Successfully weaning Ethan from the breast (still WIP as of now)
- Kickstarting plans on Ethan’s birthday party
I would like to find out what Paris, who is happily dancing around with her Tiffany pendant (I’m imagining the dancing part), is hoping for at the end of this year.

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags, Thoughts & Scribblings , 12commentsDoes it scare you to visit the dentist? For me, it sure does. I confronted my fears dead on today when I had my dental checkup. I tell you, the wait itself was excruciating enough. As I flipped through one of the magazines they had in the waiting room, I could hear the sound of drilling coming from behind the door. It doesn’t help that the walls are not sound-proof, you know. Then the anticipation of “When will they call my name?” sets in. Flip flip flip.. wait wait wait… and finally it was my turn.
Thanks goodness my dentist flashed a very sweet smile and she greeted me in the nicest way possible. Certainly made sitting in that chair easier. I had my teeth scaled and polished, and I was relieved when she told me that my teeth were in good shape. Phew! That’s what I like to hear: no cavities, no gingivitis, minimal plague. Made some small talk with her and asked her a few questions and that was it. Less than 30 minutes and I was outta there. Sparkling clean teeth and a bright smile
So if you haven’t yet visited your dentist in the past six months or more, perhaps it is time you did so. Your teeth will thank you for it.
And now, with a big smile, I shall complete the (supposedly) long tag from Ehon, who, by the way, takes some pretty amazing pictures. I no kid you, see?

I scream, now you scream November 19, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 10commentsMy favorite kind of movie genre is the feelgood kind. Something that gives me a lump in my throat at the end of the show, and well…maybe shed a tear or two. It has been some time since I watched a movie. All I have been watching lately are YATTAAAA-fying episodes of Heroes! In a way, Heroes is kind of feelgood what… saving the world and all. But anyway, some weeks ago, Her Royal Highness the Hijack Queen asked me to list down some movies which had me scared stiff. But it isn’t entirely fair, because she herself is not a scary movie buff. So how? I am also not one to watch scary movies, but I’ll try to remember what I can okay? In fact, the last horror movie I watched in the cinema was The Eye II. It was a last-minute decision, and I cannot remember now why hubby and I ended up watching that, but all I could remember was that scene when a ghostly figure, long hair and all, suddenly appeared in the taxicab. But instead of screaming out of fear, I laughed! I don’t even know why… but it was a good excuse to have delicious GSC popcorn nonetheless.
Here’s my list of horror movies:
Orang Minyak
This Malaysian production was a pretty scary show to me when I was a little girl. I remember being terrified of entering the toilet on my own for days on end. Images of a man covered entirely in black oil, going around the kampungs raping virgins was enough to scare me.
The Omen
I remember the crows, the dogs and I remember I was really horrified of it all.
Psycho
Are you kidding me? This show had me scared everytime I stayed in a hotel and pulled the shower curtain to take a shower. I think I still am. Thank goodness for shower stalls with glass doors now…
It
I’m still terrified of clowns to this day.
The Sixth Sense
Not your typical run-of-the-mill horror movie, but that scene in the school gym and that scene in the toy tent at home made me scream! Now if I were to watch it again, I know when to close my eyes.
The Others
Okay, this was pretty scary for me, because I kept telling myself something was gonna happen next….
Poltergeist
Watched it as a little girl, and remembered how scared I was after that. Never gonna watch it again.
Nightmare on Elm Street
Freddy Kreuger! Aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!! *runs away screaming*
Who wants to scream with me? Hold my hand? Rinnah, May, Paris?
Never too Patt to be Fatt November 15, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 17commentsOne more day to go before we hit Friday, and then it’s the weekend!!! The past week has been horrific. Because of earlier meetings almost every day, hubby and I have been forced to kiss our pillows goodbye so much more earlier in the mornings, make like zombies and drag ourselves to work. Yesterday we celebrated Hump Day (Wednesday la), because after that point in the work week, it’s wheeeeee………. all the way down to the weekend. Okay, we’re weird that way.
But anyway, I am so looking forward to the weekend. It beckons with so many promises and unknowns. Will the giddy tigress cook again? Will I have enough sleep? Where to go shopping? Where to eat? Will I be able to get myself a chup or two? Hehe….

On the blogging front, I have a few tags on my to-do list, so I might as well do one now. How can I NOT do a tag on the FATT number eight? Angeleyes was *patt* enough to tag me on this *fatt* meme, and in true EFNTD blogging fashion, I shall oblige.
8 THINGS I’M PASSIONATE ABOUT:
- Being a good Christian
- Being the best Mommy I can be
- Working towards becoming an SAHM
- Improving my digital scrapbooking skills
- Advocating breastfeeding
- Shopping for the best bargains
- Blogging to keep my readers interested in what I have to write about

8 PEOPLE I THINK SHOULD DO THIS CRAZY EIGHT MEME:
Laksa Queen strikes again November 13, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Drooling & Cooking, Memes & Tags , 25commentsIt is already November now, just about one and a half months to go before we usher in the New Year. And last weekend, I was proud to pat myself on the back for a job well done because I managed to add one more checkmark on one of the New Year resolutions I made at the beginning of the year, i.e. to cook more often.

Yes, I made Sarawak Laksa for dinner last Saturday night. My Mom and Dad were in Penang for a visit, so I took the opportunity to make use of one of the Sarawak Laksa sambal packets I had in the refrigerator. A friend of mine had bought me two packets of the sambal from Sarawak a couple of months ago, so I thought it was the perfect chance to put it to good use. Besides, it has been years since I last cooked Sarawak Laksa. The thing about Sarawak Laksa is that we need to boil the sambal in water and then filter it. I don’t really like the filtering part because this would mean I need to wash an extra set of pots. After filtering, I added the chicken stock (this I made from steaming the chicken meat, not from the *buy-off-the-shelves* stock, mind you!) and some water from boiling the prawns. Coconut milk helped to seal in the taste, and of course, some salt to taste for good measure.
Oh, by the way does anyone know the shortcut to break off the tails from the bean sprouts (taugeh)? I did it the manual way and boy was it excruciating! Luckily for me, I was only cooking for four! I would say that the person who manages to create a machine to de-tail taugehs will make millions, I am sure! Anyway, all other ingredients like chicken and fried eggs were sliced thinly, and the laksa was garnished with coriander, mint leaves and the juice from half a calamansi lime. I ought to learn the art of how to make the eggs thin and fluffy from Mom though, because mine still isn’t quite there yet. The authentic Sarawak Laksa is made using vermicelli or beehoon, but I like the regular thick assam laksa noodle, so I used that instead. We each had two bowls each and were so full we could hardly move! Well, that was dinner for last Saturday. Does my Sarawak Laksa look anything like Laksa Shack’s?
Oh, by the way, it’s not very healthy to eat till cannot move every day you know. But a little bit of everything is certainly acceptable and does wonders for the body. And having good food is definitely healthy, right? This from someone who absolutely adores food. Heh. So Healy, my healthy tip is to eat everything in moderation. The key point is not to deprive yourself of enjoyment. We only live once, after all. And yes, I am once again disguising this as a meme…
