Revival of the Autograph Book October 11, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 11comments
Before I left school, my friends and I would exchange autograph books, where we would write a little something about ourselves to help us be remembered. We listed stuff like our favorite entertainers, favorite colors and favorite food, and decorated our autographs with photos and other paraphernalia. Acronyms were created such as F.R.A.N.C.E. which stood for Friendship Remains And Never Can End. I still have my autograph book at home in Ipoh, and I think it would be a hoot to take it out and browse through those pages filled with memories. While some may cringe in embarrassment at what lay beneath the pages of their autograph book, I feel it serves as a reminder of how naïve and carefree we were back then. Ah, the simple life.
I never thought I would be indulging in the autograph craze again, but now it appears that even the autograph book has been transformed online onto blogs, and I am extremely honored that Chinnee has so kindly asked for mine.
#1 What is your favourite movie?
My Best Friend’s Wedding - I love the part where Kimmy sings “I just don’t know what to do with myself…” at the karaoke bar. So out of tune and so karaoke-ish. I tell you, I could watch this movie over and over again without being bored.
#2 Who is your favourite singer?
Andrea Bocelli - beautiful voice, enchanting singer.
#3 Which song gets you grooving in the morning?
Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake - catchy tune, this. And it was the first song that came to my head.
#4 What is your favourite fruit?
The Papaya
#5 Who is your best friend (excluding your family)?
I’ll go with Mei Lee, who has known me since Standard One, and although we don’t meet each other as regularly as we like to, we still keep in touch via email and phone.
#6 Name one activity you would like to indulge in, in your free time.
Reading - trying to do this as often as I can, with a certain amount of success, I am pleased to say.
#7 When was the last time you laughed so hard till your sides hurt?
When Ethan made me laugh with his antics. Sometimes just looking at him makes me laugh.
#8 Do you recall your last dream?
Yes! Last night I dreamt I was savoring food from a splendid buffet spread. And yes, I dream in color.
#9 What is your all-time favourite hobby?
Errr… does sleeping count as a hobby?
#10 When was your last holiday without the children?
Our honeymoon in the Maldives in November 2004.
Can I have the autograph of the following peeps now, please?
If I Could Turn Back Time October 10, 2007

I didn’t really like that Cher song actually but the melody just came to me when I started writing this post. Now I will be inundated with it for the rest of the day. Sigh. I wish I could turn back time 5 minutes ago when that song didn’t come to my mind. Haha… Nah, just kidding.
Well, anyway, this tag came from Huisia, who wanted to know that if I had Hiro Nakamura’s powers, which age would I choose to return to, and why?
Hands down, definitely I will choose to return to the time when I was a little girl, probably at age 4 or 5. That’s when I had no worries at all in the world, and lived only to play and sleep and eat. No deadlines to meet and nobody bugging me on the completion date of tasks. No need to wake up early for meetings, dragging my weary self to work feeling like a zombie. No need to worry about car loans and house mortgages. No need to make important decisions like which life insurance policy to take, or which unit trust fund to invest in. The most important decision I had to make was probably to choose if I wanted to wear my own dress shoes or my Mom’s platform shoes. Ah yes. I was a little vainpot even back then.
And now I bequeath the powers of time travelling to:

Cheong Cheong Kau Kau Month of Awards October 2, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging, Memes & Tags , 5commentsSeptember came and went in a blink of an eye. It was a month of change, at least for me, but it was also a month of awards. September brought with it a flurry of awards that spread through the blogosphere almost as fast as the blogivitis itself.

First, Chinnee gave me the Creative Blogger award. She says it is because my blog posts have the “oomph!” factor. Hmmm… I wonder if the “oomph!” factor is because I drone onandon sometimes and complain about things that happen to me in a *creative* manner? Is it because of the food pictures I put up on some of my posts? Because if that’s the reason, then it was completely worth it asking my meal companions to wait “just a sec” while I get that perfect angle that would show off how tasty the food is. Or is it because occasionally I would spurt a poem on some random topic? Well, whatever the reason, merci beaucoup for the award

Then Pinkelle made me smile when she told me I made her smile! Awww…. she’s so sweet, ain’t she? With a sugary-sounding name like that, of course she is! She just celebrated her birthday last Friday too! Happy belated birthday, dear Pinkelle!

And then just when I thought things could not get any better, the Genie King swung by to let me know that I am totally fabulous! Whee! September is indeed a rewarding month. I feel like I just attended the Oscars.
So if you’re reading this, I’m giving all of those awards to you too, just because I can!
Edited: I have been overwhelmed! You guys are just TOO sweet! I forgot that my good gal pal Rinnah also thinks I am fabulous! Hehe… I think you’re fab yourself too, Rinnah!
Kay-Poh-Chee September 27, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 22commentsThis tag is specially for all the kay-poh-chees out there. Those of you who yearn to see what others’ desktops look like but dare not for fear of being labeled “intrusive”. But since a fellow vainpot mummy has tagged me, I will relent.
Ta-daaa! Here’s what my desktop looks like:

Yup, no prizes for guessing who that cheeky lil fella is. He is none other than Mr Bulat aka Ethan Boy, my precious, cheeky, adorable son, sporting a very mischievous look indeed. Just one look at that face and all my woes are gone, that’s why I have it on my wallpaper

And the numbers never cease…
Lovely Mummy has tagged me with another number tag, and this time it is “8 random facts about my popo”. Since I call my paternal grandma “Ah-Ma” and I call my maternal grandma “Por-por”, so I will list down the facts about my maternal grandma here.
- She was born on March 29, 1921 and is 86 years old now. According to my Mom, this is Porpor’s English date of birth and it differs from the Chinese one, which we celebrate every November.
- She has a total of 18 siblings; 9 brothers and 9 sisters.
- She stays in Alor Star, Kedah, land of the paddy fields and very very flat land. Very very hot weather too!
- She is very good in tai-chi and has taught many many classes. I have no doubt that my grandma has really strong legs, thanks to her devotion to tai-chi.
- She can play mahjong very well, better than me, cos I can’t
She used to cycle to play mahjong with her friends till very late at night. I ought to consult her for some lessons soon. - She can sing and loves singing. I believe she used to be in some singing troupe too! Oh yeah, and she can do karaoke as well.
- When I was a little girl, she used to tell me bedtime stories when I visited her. They were all peppered with her vast imagination and as a child I thoroughly enjoyed them.
- She has green fingers. All the plants and flowers in her garden are flourishing because of her. I remember I used to take some plants back home, but they would shrivel up and die under my care. SIGH.
Isn’t she a gem?
Now would you care to share how unique your grandma is?

Phone Tag September 18, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 15commentsThis *supposedly* easy tag from Chen turned out to be quite an adventure in itself, not only because it took me down the technology memory lane, but because I had to hunt down pictures of my previous cellphones. Lucky thing it wasn’t those really huge “tai-kor-tai” that resembled some generator. That would REALLY give away my age…hehe… Good thing too that the ever-resourceful Rinnah helped me look for the picture of my first cell phone.
List down the following:
1. The phone(s) that you owned previously
2. The phone(s) that you’re using now
3. The phone(s) that you’re looking at to replace the current phone
My first phone - Ericsson T18

I honestly could not even remember the model of this phone, so I had to rely on knowing what it looked like to get the model. This was my one and only flip phone, and at that time, this phone was pretty sleek compared to its bulkier counterparts. I had a blue one (like the one shown in the picture) and it came with an antenna which I suspect emitted quite a fair amount of electromagnetic rays. I remember using this phone to “boil phone porridge” with my hubby (then boyfriend) when he was working in the US at that time. An hour on this phone would make my head somewhat dizzy. Well, the phone battery’s life eventually ended, so I got a new phone, which marked the start of my devotion to Nokia phones.
My 2nd phone - Nokia 8250

The thing I love about this phone is its cool blue screen. It was functional at its best, and I didn’t care that it could not support images, nor surf the net, cos I wasn’t into those kinda things. It also survived a few falls, and served me well. The reason I moved on to my next phone was also because the battery life had run out.
My 3rd phone - Nokia 6020

My first camera phone! Although the pixel resolution left much to be desired, I was happy that I had a phone which supported images. When people asked me about my baby boy, I could proudly show them his picture using my phone. This phone was light and compact, and very professional looking. In fact it still works perfectly well, and since I got myself a new blogging phone, I passed this phone to my Mom.
My current phone - Nokia N73

Blogging made me switch to my current phone. The N73 has fantastic camera and video capabilities, and served my blogging needs entirely. Oh, if you haven’t yet heard, my phone is SEXY. I love it to bits and don’t intend to change it anytime soon, so I am skipping Part 3 of the tag
Finally, I am tagging the following peeps, whom I think are *phone* people:
Michelle
Hijack Queen
Paris Beaverbanks
The Whole Truth September 13, 2007
Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Memes & Tags , 19comments…and nothing but the truth. That’s what Rinnah has asked of me. Of course, I am always a very frank and honest person to begin with, so with this one, I will be even MORE honest. No white lie here then. To complete this tag, I need to list down eight questions or statements that should never ever be asked of or said to me. (so now you know that if you do say any of these things to me, I will not be a happy camper)
*****
“People say…”
Don’t start off your sentence with “People say…” when you are talking to me. More often than not, you don’t even KNOW who these fictitious *people* are to begin with. They could be your friend’s mother’s sister’s boyfriend’s aunt for all I care. Thing is, most of the facts would have already been missing when the whole story reaches you, and that’s not at all authentic to me.
“Why?”
Look, it’s all right if you ask me “Why?” once, well…maaybe twice, but if you keep asking it in response to each and every thing I say, it’s not cute any more. Let me refer you to Google, okay? Repeated “Why?”s are only acceptable if you are a kid and you don’t know how to use the computer.
“Miss, this one got 20% off now…”
… or something to that effect. I can read the sign that says “20% off” when the font size is readable a mile away. There is no need for you to reiterate and worse, follow me around the store, narrating which ones are on discount and which ones are not. When I want your help to get me something in my size, I will let you know. Otherwise, a simple, “Hi, welcome to our store” would suffice.
“Hah?”
If you need me to repeat what I just said, please take the trouble to ask nicely. “Pardon?”, “Sorry?” or “Excuse me?” are all acceptable. “Hah?” just makes me mad and makes you look like a complete nincompoop!
“Aunty…”
It’s not because I am in denial, but if you are trying to sell me that vacuum cleaner and start your sales pitch by calling me Aunty, do you think I would even remotely consider buying it?
“Can I meet you for lunch? I want to introduce this rewarding sales plan to you!”
Can’t we just meet for food and some good catch-up on old times without bringing in any MLM business discussions?
“Your lips are too dry”, “You have big hips” or “You have a lot of open pores”
When you want to introduce a new brand of skincare or a new facial treatment to me, I am not affected by what YOU say. The more you insult the way I am right now, the more I will NOT buy what you are selling.
“Do you prefer to eat char koay teow or laksa?”
Please don’t ask me to choose either one. I know a place in Pulau Tikus where we can get both. Why choose when I can get both?!
*****
Gosh, that was a hard tag. Those who have passed the TRUTH test with flying colors are:
Ogre the Caveman
Janice this is a miracle
Trinity from Rooms of My Heart
rinnah from It’s all about the spin…
Giddy Tiger from Giddy Tigers
And those who need to take this test now are:

It’s heartwarming to know that I am loved… or rather my BLOG is loved! I received this lover-ly award from Angeleyes just yesterday and was told to spread this love slooowwwwllllyyyyyy…….(2 blogs at a time was the rule). Angeleyes was one of the first commentors on my humble blog, and I am pleased that I have had the opportunity to meet her once before, where else but in Queensbay Mall. That number would soon tally a grand TWO, because we are planning another meetup soon.
Thanks for the award, Angeleyes!
