Last weekend, we hung out at Starbucks and had drinks, without paying a single cent.  It was actually a treat from my fabulous web host.  I had been randomly chosen as the Happy Client winner for the month of June 2010 and had been presented with Starbucks vouchers.

How awesome is that?

Naturally, I shared them with my family, and we certainly had a great time…I wonder if my web host will be treating me to a nice dinner next? *hint hint* :)

Is it a bad thing that I am totally hooked to the dance moves of this song?  It’s infectious…

Score!!! And it’s a GOAL! June 20, 2010

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Relax & Celebrate , 4comments

At the price of RM1.50 for The Star newspaper, which included a free Galaxie magazine, free key chain and World Cup daily supplement, we were given a *chance* to score a goal from a free kick.  Obviously hubby was the one who stepped up.

Check out the difficult angle the ball was placed at, and given that hubbs is a right-footer at best (the ball was placed where a left-footed shot would have been better), and the ball was a really light beach ball (read: difficult to control), he slammed the ball straight into the goal (which was quite small to begin with).  I was thrilled!

It wasn’t the free shoe bag we got for scoring that made me happy, but the mere sight of the goal being scored.

Now, don’t you think my hubby could be a great asset to Liverpool?  Perhaps as a manager? *hint hint*

My brand new silver and white baby May 26, 2010

I’m sitting at my dining table now, typing out this post…yeah, you read right…my DINING TABLE.

Nope, I did not move my home PC out, which would be absolutely absurd.  Instead, I am blogging from my brand new Sony Vaio! :)

vaio2

Excuse me while I wipe that grin from my face :)

vaio1

This is actually a long-delayed Christmas present from my hubby, and I tell you, I totally ADORE it!  We were actually deciding between the Vaio or the Dell Studio.  I wanted something sleek in white, and I was eyeing the Dell Studio laptop with the OPI color on its casing, but then just recently Sony released the new E series Vaio laptops, and I was totally smitten!

vaio3

Check out that classic, chic white, clean look, with the *chiclets* keyboard, which was another reason why we chose this baby.  The rest of the colors in the E series do not come with the white keyboard save for the white colored models.

Actually come to think of it, it’s not really even white.  The cover is more of a silvery sheen, which suits me perfectly fine.

…and did I mention it comes with a FREE original Sony Vaio backpack (Targus) and a whole lot of other goodies and freebies (like a mouse, Kensington lock, keyboard protector, etc).

vaio5

Performance-wise, it is definitely MUCH faster than our home PC, and the i5 processor ROCKS!  Windows 7 interface is cool too, and feels a lot like a Mac, but we’ve experienced some itsy-bitsy bugs here and there.  They are all small enough to be ignored of course…and I’m loving the speed of this laptop immensely!

The look of my new baby is so totally me, and I am looking forward to our long-term relationship together.  Ethan has named my Vaio the new *girl’s computer* and it looks like he is *booking* the home pc for himself! LOL

Can’t get enough of the *chiclets* keyboard…

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the gorgeous, fabulous Christmas present, my love! :)

My Best Mother’s Day ever! May 13, 2010

momsday2010

To date, this year’s Mother’s Day is definitely my best ever.

My prayers were answered, and a situation totally did a 180 degrees turn and presented itself in a whole new light which left me happy beyond comprehension.

To top it off, my little boy surprised me with a Mother’s Day card and a present which he picked out together with his Daddy.  Dunno if the E stands for the brand of the bag or Ethan. :)

Nevertheless, I loved every minute of that day, which marked the 4th time I celebrated that wonderful day. :)

Fine Dining in a Fine Mansion April 25, 2010

Before last Tuesday, Suffolk House was just a name on a brown signboard I see every day when I drive along Scotland Road.  I had no idea it was a fine dining restaurant.

So when my hubby had a company function at Suffolk House, and the *spouse was invited*, I jumped at the opportunity.  With quite a heavy heart though, I had to leave my kids at the sitter’s for a few hours.

This is what Suffolk House looks like from the outside.  A gigantic bungalow with a huge expanse of land.

I’d read that Suffolk House served as the residence to many governors in Penang in the 19th century, especially, so it was certainly great to be in a mansion that had all that history behind it.

Anyway….enough about all that….

So when we arrived in the dining area, it was dimly and romantically lit…well, not exactly romantic, because it was not JUST the two of us, but there were other people from my husband’s team too.  But anyway, we were seated and given the menu to place our order.

suffolkhse3

We only had to select our entrée though, because the appetizers and dessert was already pre-ordered.  You read right, it’s appetizers in the PLURAL!  A whole long list 5 appetizers, but it being fine dining and all, I knew the servings would be minuscule.

First, we had poached baby oyster in saffron cream as amuse bouche.  It was served in a Chinese soup spoon, and I couldn’t get a good picture of it, but believe me when I say it was delicious!

Got pictures of some of the other appetizers though…can you spot the ONE piece of ravioli? :P

The last item on the appetizer list was the Tomato sorbet, which I didn’t quite like. I thought it tasted weird, hence no pictures :P
And this is what hubbs ordered for his main course:

I chose to have the steak..I guess I was swayed by the term “grass fed” in the description.

suffolkhse7

In conclusion, the lamb was the better choice, maybe because they made my steak well done instead of medium like I ordered.  But despite that the beef was tender and the potato cake was delicious!

Here’s our dessert.  We had not one, not two, but THREE different types of dessert, served in a longish plate with three sections.  Gotta love the plates they use here.

 suffolkhse8

My favorite was the pear carambola cake.  Tasted a bit like cheese cake but with a hint of fruity flavor.  The photos turned out a little bit grainy though, because of the poor lighting.

It was a fantastic fine dining experience, although the funniest thing was that after the dinner, while we were walking out of Suffolk House, I noticed this sign:

Errr….can I say oooops? :P

Absolutely RED with ONG February 23, 2010

We are more than a week through the new Lunar New Year of the Tiger.  How has it treated you?

For me it has been a hot hot hot New Year.  I’ve been eating non-stop: cookies, drinks, bak-kwa….and now I am nursing an irritating dry cough.

redlips

But I did enjoy the Chinese New Year holidays.  For a change, I chose to put on RED lipstick.  I am never one to wear lipstick, and when I do, it is of a shade that is subtle or very close to my lip color.  This year, I opted to usher in the “ONG” with RED lipstick, and red nailpolish.

…and you know what?  I discovered that with red lipstick, it cuts down my makeup time by about 10 minutes!  This is because I don’t need to put on a whole lot of eyeshadow and blush.  I want all the attention on my red lips, so the eyes just gets a simple eyeliner treatment, very light eyeshadow, and I just use my Georgia face powder for a light touch of peach on the face.  So putting on RED lipstick is definitely a great tip for mommies with kids :)

Joyous hope for New Year January 3, 2010

Surely kickstarting the New Year with a delicious dim sum brunch with my family is a sign of good things to come.  I don’t need to read all the predictions and fortune teller articles to know that a great exciting year lies ahead.

2009 was an awesome year as it is, definitely raising the bar as to what is constituted as a GREAT year, but still, there’s always room for more.

As we watched the fireworks from the comfortable balcony in our home as the clock struck midnight (Ethan going, “Wow, fireworks!”…yup, they were so loud they woke him up), we are just so happy that we have each other.  And as we toast our little cups of Jasmine tea over dim sum, and satisfy our tummies with good food, we look forward to a year of hope, joy and togetherness.

Happy New Year 2010 everyone!

Those unchanging things December 4, 2009

Some things just never change.

Like how crowded the popular ngah choy kai stalls in Ipoh are, most patrons being out-of-towners stopping by for a quick bite.

Like how crunchy and succulent the ngah choy in Ipoh still is.  And always will be.  We were afraid we could not finish such a big plate, but that obviously was not the problem at all!

Like how tasty the chicken is, although we could very well tell it was extremely oily!  The combination of sesame oil, soy sauce, pepper and (I’m pretty darn sure) some secret magic ingredient made it all so worthwhile.

And as I mentioned earlier, some things will never ever change, and that is why my (unbiased) opinion is that Ipoh still serves the BESTEST koay teow ever.

Yes, some things just never change, and we love them all for their neverchangingness. But even more precious than the tastiest food in the world, the feeling of pride and joy when in the midst of a newborn will always remain unchanged too.

Last weekend, I met baby Caitlynn, newborn daughter to my brother and SIL.  The sight of a peacefully sleeping baby, oblivious to all the noise made by her brother and sibling, is truly a sight to behold.

Welcome to the world, baby Caitlynn!  I hope to be the your favoritest aunt in the whole wide world! :)

Oh, and speaking of things that never change, the malls in KL were all decked out in Christmas decorations too, as usual.  We were at The Curve and well, if you were not snapping pictures, you’ll really feel out of place!

Speaking of which…I need to go now,…cuz tonight we are setting up our tree! :)

Little cups of choc heaven October 30, 2009

I decided to make cupcakes today.  Chocolate cupcakes, to be exact.  Just thought it’d be nice to have something sweet around, and also because it would be a good project for my tot and I to embark on together.

Oh, and the timing would be just perfect too, because chocolate cupcakes would be absolutely LOVELY to celebrate a fifth wedding anniversary :)

I saw this delightfully delicious chocolate cupcake recipe from Love and Olive Oil, and I knew I immediately must try it.  I was intrigued by the idea that the recipe calls for coconut milk and almond meal, and also that it did not contain any eggs!

The result is a sinfully moist, too-good-to-be-true yummy, and once-you-pop-you-can’t-stop kind of chocolate cupcakes that is (dare I say myself) hard to resist!  I made 24 mini cupcakes and 9 regular-sized cupcakes, but honestly, I prefer the mini ones.   They are just too convenient to eat! (but NOT very good for the waistline, I’m afraid!)

Love the vanilla-based frosting too.  I don’t know where to find vanilla beans here in Malaysia, so I substituted it with vanilla essence.  This is my maiden attempt at making frosting, and I am pleased to say that I am VERY happy with the results.  Might wanna jazz it up a bit with some colors in future…

At the end of it, I have a strong feeling this will ALSO be my go-to chocolate cake recipe.   Love it, love it, LURVE it!

Oh, and before I forget…Happy Anniversary, my Love!!! :)
