I came in to work this morning and discovered that I had the honor of being tagged by the Simple American. It’s a fun meme to do because it has to do with music, which I absolutely LURVE! Here’s what it requires:
- Go to PopCulture site.
- Pick the year you turn 18 years old. You’ll see the years on the left sidebar.
- Get yourself nostalgic over the songs from that year.
- Write something about how those songs affected you.
- Pass it on to five more friends.
Throughout my life, music has played an integral role in every aspect of it. Heck, there were times when I studied for my exams with music in the background. Seriously! So the songs I see now in the list really do jolt my memory as I recall what each one meant to me (psst! Not gonna reveal which year they are from..you gotta go find that out!). The year I turned 18 was the year after I sat for my SPM, so basically a throw-caution-to-the-wind-because-the-major-exam-is-over year.
- I’m Too Sexy (Right Said Fred)– one of the most overplayed ANTHEMS of all time. People everywhere were going “I’m too sexy for my food, too sexy for my TV, too sexy for my clothes….” yadayadayada…. Okay okay, I admit I was one of those singing along to it as well. 😛
- End of The Road (Boyz II Men) – this song brings back good memories cos it was one of the first songs that my then-boyfriend-now-hubby and I danced to. 🙂
- My Lovin (You’re Never Gonna Get It) (En Vogue) – great DIVA song with excellent harmony. En Vogue is a really sexy girl band, with great harmonization vocals to match. I really love the part where they go “Never gonna geddit, never gonna geddit, Ne..ver gonna geddit, never gonna geddit…..”
- Give it Away (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) – another great singalong anthem song. “Give it away, give it away, give it away now…!!”
- Twilight Zone (2 Unlimited) – this song was one of my favorite dance songs at that time. Never failed to help me break a sweat and throw away calories. I don’t really fancy techno songs, but surprisingly this one was one of my favorites.
- All Nirvana songs like Lithium, Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are – they sound dreary but hey, they still sound good to this day.
- Jump (Kris Kross) – I remember this song cos I recall waiting for the video to come on every time. It’s a funky dance track and has an infectious rhythm which makes you wanna Jump Jump!!! I was reintroduced to it about 2 years back during my Body Jam class. Great workout track.
- Mariah Carey songs were awesome then (now they’re just plain weird) – songs like Make It Happen, I’ll Be There, Can’t Let Go were my favorite bathroom-singing material at that time. Yeah yeah…my lucky neighbors.
- And of course to round up the list is the all-time karaoke favorite I’ll Always Love You (Whitney Houston) – I had many requests to do this song at karaoke sessions. Hehe… me just being big-headed.
There… a glimpse of the year that once was, when I was 18. Such good fun, and it’s amazing how some of those songs are still NOT considered oldies today. 🙂
I’m gonna tag a 5 people now:
Have fun doing this guys!… and have a good weekend ahead!
Hahaha, this tag is started by me!

The Giddy Tiger: You betcha. Shows how *small* the blogging world can be despite it being HUGE huh? Next tag coming your way!
Wuah…I just surfed through you phaktor till wedding pages and you are married in my church! Nice! If you come by again, make sure you tell me in advance so I can go and greet you, Peter and Ethan, ok?
The Giddy Tiger says: Will do. We go there (almost) every weekend, so it’s really a wonder why we have not met… hope to meet you soon!
Nicely done. Got some great tunes there. You’re just a spring chicken too. 🙂 lol
The Giddy Tiger says: I most certainly am. Thanks for the fun meme 🙂
