Malaysia celebrates its 50th year of independence today. And we celebrated one great day away from work, sleeping in and waking up to a bright and sunny day. Watched the Merdeka parade that was being shown live from Dataran Merdeka, then switched channels to Starworld. Let’s face it, The Ellen Degeneres Show was way more entertaining than the Merdeka commentators drone onandon about how ‘cantik’ the floats were. Well, at some level anyway. (Hey, Ellen was dancing to Sexy Back, y’ know…)
Well anyway, I managed to cook lunch today. Piping hot homecooked food. Woohoo! We had assam fish curry, thanks to the ingenuity of instant curry paste (which I doubt existed in Malaysia 50 years ago – yup, we’ve come a long way, baby), I whipped up a meal in no time at all. Just add fish and lady’s fingers…..oh, and if a scrumptious lunch was not enough to celebrate Merdeka with, the 2-hour afternoon nap certainly did the trick! *wink*
Mmm… your Assam Fish Curry looks absolutely tantalizing, I must say. And what a cute name – One Fine Shop! Is that Ethan’s little plate with fork and spoon I spy in the lower left corner there?
Hope you had a good Merdeka Day, GT!
The Giddy Tiger says: I knew you would notice Ethan’s cutlery!

ARGH! When am I learning how to cook??!!
The Giddy Tiger says: You can *pretend* to be a chef using the instant paste 🙂

The Giddy Tiger says: Yes, of course he did! 😀
Wow I love assam fish curry!!
Psst: I used to watch the national day parade on TV when I was a kid – we’d leave the TV on in the morning and listen to the commentator and stuff. It’s a thing of the past now:p
The Giddy Tiger says: Well, the national day parade is still on now, but it has lost some of its appeal, somewhat….maybe I need to go to Dataran Merdeka. Hehehe…
oh gosh, that’s so mouth-watering! you’ve showed me something I’ve not eaten in awhile and won’t get good ones in Oz (at least, I don’t think so)… ok, gotta get Mom to cook this for me… kekeke!
The Giddy Tiger says: You can buy a few packets of these back to Oz and cook it yourself too!
the fish ..looks so.. good. so fresh.
The Giddy Tiger says: Yum yum…
Try adding tomatoes and big onions next time. And garnish with mint.. It will really pass & taste like the experts! *wink*. Happy Merdeka
The Giddy Tiger says: Point noted. And I HAVE tasted fish curry like the one you have described!
Happy Merdeka!!
