Is there a Camera in the House?

One of the reasons my hubby and I decided against hiring a live-in maid (apart from invasion of privacy) is because our eyes cannot follow the maid everywhere around the house. Of course in the event we do have a maid, it will be a matter of time before we can actually trust the maid. There are too many maid horror stories that we have heard recently.

So when I stumbled on HomeCamera, an internet home surveillance system designed for ordinary folks, it did not take a lot of coaxing for me to check out what they had to offer. And when we can’t be everywhere all the time, a home camera certainly comes in handy. I am very skeptical when it comes to home surveillance equipment, so I would need to be absolutely sure it fits my requirements before I give it a try. Things I would look for when checking out home surveillance systems are:

  • Affordability – it has to fit my very tight budget
  • Reliability – if something were to go awry, I need to know the company has dependable services to fix it.
  • Efficiency – because how good is a home camera if the images are fuzzy all the time?

For one thing, setting up HomeCamera is certainly a breeze. It really is idiot-proof. All I need to do is to download the free Windows webcam security software (free only during the beta period!), together with user ID and password and I am all set! Best of all, it works with ALL webcams and I can access my HomeCamera account from anywhere, whether I am using my PDA or mobile phone. My webcam will do all the work while I can just sit back enjoying my cup of teh tarik. Also, what caught my eye is their 24×7 support services. You never know when that might come in handy, right?

SIGH… I wish I had heard of this a few years back and installed it before the thief broke into our apartment and carted our stuff away. It would have been full-proof evidence then! Of course, a good addition to HomeCamera would be the functionality to call the authorities once an alert or emergency is noticed, you know, something like a burglar system. But with more features being added to HomeCamera soon, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this incorporated as well!
