My brother, the songwriter

It isn’t every day that one gets to be in the spotlight. And it isn’t every day that we know someone who gets that chance in a lifetime. But come this December 2nd, my brother will have the rare and special opportunity to do so.

Yes, my brother’s personal composition entitled “You” has made it to the finals of the Malaysian Revival Songwriting Competition 2007 (MRSC 2007). I am so very proud of him because his song is now one of the final NINE songs to be performed that night. Ever since he told me that he made it through to the selection stage, I have been rooting for him, and so of course, I was extremely jubilant when he told me he now had a one in nine chance of winning! Oh yes, I’ve heard his song and it’s really really good 🙂 Having said that, it is unfortunate that I will not be able to make it for the finals because the concert-like atmosphere is not something Ethan would enjoy, not now anyway. But if anyone would like to attend the concert and support my bro, please go ahead!

The concert will be held on Dec 2nd 2007 at the Matrade Hall in Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur. This charity event is held to raise funds for the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia, Real Love Ministries (RLM – a counseling program to help the homosexual community) and NIE Asia (Helping to build wells in Cambodia). Thus, invitation and/or tickets to this event is by donation only:

GREEN TICKETS
Donation below RM 50 (Minimum RM 10)

BLUE TICKETS (entitled to a CD as token of appreciation)
Donation above RM 50

PINK TICKETS (entitled to a CD as token of appreciation) – VIP
Donation above RM 200

Note: The CD above would either be Carbon (Compilation of Finalists from MRSC 2005) or Rizuan the Musical (Compilation of Finalists from MRSC 2006)

If you are interested to get the tickets, please contact me personally or check out my brother’s blog for details. For more information about this spectacular event, visit the organizer’s website here.

You go, bro!

These boots are made for..?

Exercise is still eluding me. It has been ages since I have gone hiking. I used to hike up Penang Hill on a weekly basis, and even timed myself while doing so, but now, with the lack of exercise, I am not confident if I can even make it halfway up. I am afraid I will pass out from sheer exhaustion! And then today, Rinnah suggested that I bring Ethan hiking with me. He would absolutely love it, I am sure. Actually my hubby and I contemplated hiking up Penang Hill with Ethan strapped on our backs! We figured Ethan would do good for our strength training. Hah…I bet my boy would enjoy that, but I dare not think how my knees would feel! I wonder if getting the right shoes for hiking would help alleviate the pain and discomfort. I wonder if these Hunting Boots can double up as hiking boots too. I wonder when I will eventually start exercising.

Brought to you by G and J

I think this tag that Shooi has passed to me is asking me to spurt out the first word or phrase that comes to my mind, but the word or phrase has to begin with the first letter of my name. So I am in a quandary here. Do I use the first letter of my real name or the first letter of my blogging moniker? In order to avoid disagreements, I shall do both, since I am in a good mood today. 😀

Here’s how it works:
Use the first letter of your name to answer each question. Must be places, names…Nothing made up. Can’t use own name for boy/girl’s name question. If can’t answer, skip to next one.

My name starts with “G”

1. Famous Singer: Guns N’ Roses
2. Four Letter Word: Gone
3. Street: Going downtown
4. Colour: Green
5. Gifts/Present: Gorgeous diamond ring
6. Vehicle: Gray truck
7. Things in Souvenir Shop: Generally expensive
8. Boy Name: Gordon
9. Girl Name: Gabrielle
10. Movie title: Green Mile
11. Drink: Green tea
12. Occupation: Gardener
13. Celebrity: Gwyneth Paltrow
14. Magazine: Golfing magazines
15. U.S. City: Gilroy
16. Pro Sports: Golf
17. Fruit: Guava
18. Reason for Being Late to work: Got up late
19. Something you throw away: Garbage
20. Something you shout: Goal!!!!!!!!
21. Cartoon Character: Genie from Aladdin

and my name also starts with “J”

1. Famous Singer: Josh Groban
2. Four Letter Word: Jazz
3. Street: Jalan
4. Colour: Jealous green
5. Gifts/Present: Jewellery with diamonds
6. Vehicle: Jeep
7. Things in Souvenir Shop: Just for remembrance
8. Boy Name: Jacob
9. Girl Name: Jaslene
10. Movie title: Jaws
11. Drink: Jack Daniel’s
12. Occupation: Janitor
13. Celebrity: Jennifer Lopez
14. Magazine: Jet
15. U.S. City: Jacksonville
16. Pro Sports: Jet-skiing?
17. Fruit: Jackfruit
18. Reason for Being Late to work: Jam (traffic, that is)
19. Something you throw away: Junk
20. Something you shout: Just kidding!
21. Cartoon Character: Jem

And now I rub my hands with glee and tag:

Rinnah

You can always lean on me

With great power comes great responsibilty, that’s the tagline from Spiderman. And that’s the phrase that has been reverberating in my head for the past couple of weeks. I had a recent change in role in my work and while it is not a drastic change, this new role encompasses a broader aspect in terms of project management and ownership. At the same time, it commands certainly much more responsibility on my part. I can’t say much about the “power” portion though, but I do feel empowered to produce results. That’s a good thing, no?

There are plenty of project management methods out there, but the one that is taking the world by storm is probably the Six Sigma Methodology. In fact, I just completed my first Six Sigma White Belt project not too long ago, and last month, I had the opportunity to participate in an important Six Sigma Lean Management project. I was perusing some slides concerning the Six Sigma Lean Management just yesterday, and was enthused by the fact that there are so many tools related to this aspect of the Six Sigma methodology. While Lean Management eliminates waste in order to achieve productivity, it makes use of the concepts and practices of Six Sigma to attain its goals. Using this similar comparison, we can even apply the concepts to our working environment to improve our worklife efficiency. Now, if we are efficient, we can certainly get more things done better and faster and hey, maybe even sneak in some blogging and face-book-poking, and oh…I don’t know.. maybe some Rock Paper Scissors and slaying some vampires too, if we are super-efficient?

Chocolates Candies Sweets

I’m sitting here, chewing on some yummy Halloween Gummy Spiders Candy and I’m thinking to myself, “Aren’t we bloggers a revealing lot?” We tell everyone what happens in our lives, and sometimes we even document stuff that we wouldn’t ordinarily tell our friends. I guess there is something about seeing your thoughts plastered all over the internet and the knowledge that people all over the net would be able to read it that tantalizes a blogger. Of course, it is up to the individual blogger to draw the line as to what to reveal and what to hold back, but essentially by blogging, our lives are a wide-open book. Some bloggers blog about their lives in such excruciating detail that it seems as though they may very well be going up to a stranger on the street to tell him, “Hey, my kid pooped twice today!” And isn’t it a little bit odd that people whom you have not even met or spoken to before know exactly what you had for breakfast or dinner last night? Blogging certainly takes privacy to a whole new level.

In a similarly odd fashion, blogs reach out to strangers all around the world. Some of them would leave a comment or two, some will virtually poke and tickle, some stubbornly ask “How come?” and yet some choose just to remain the strong silent type. And I am fine with all of them. Really! So that’s why this treat from Wen comes at an opportune time…well, it was in conjunction with Halloween but I am posting this a day late. Originating from Hootin’ Anni, the twist to this is to pass it on to random blog visitors. Yes, no one will be left unscathed now…. And just to jazz it up, I will pass this treat on to my two latest first-time commentors, Kerry & Sting, all in the hopes that this will prod you guys to say something?

Happy belated Halloween everyone! Hope y’all had a splendid trick-or-treatin’ time!
