Scrap Papers and Elements from Anita Designs
Okay, the reason I took so long to complete this tag is not because I had nothing to write. In fact, when I found out that Shooi had given me this tag homework, I was thrilled and my brain had immediately gone to work, thinking and concocting ideas on what to write and how to put my thoughts into words. No no, the reason why I took so long to complete it is because the tag required me to list 8 random facts about my Mom, but I had WAY more than eight. So I had to filter and decide what to list and what to leave out. And believe you me, it ain’t no mean feat.
(Okay, part of the reason this post got delayed was because I kept changing my mind about that scrap above… hehehe, but that’s another story la)
My Mom, The Chef
My Mom can do wonders in the kitchen. She makes the best lum mee, the best too khar chor, the best yam rolls, the best assam laksa, the best everything! And I am so proud that I have managed to learn some of her culinary skills, claypot chicken rice being one of them. I am also very blessed that she cared for me after I delivered Ethan, because I got to dig into all of Mom’s cooking all over again, which I missed tremendously since I moved to Penang. Is it any wonder why I enjoyed all my meals then and downed them all with gusto? 😀
My Mom, The Traveler
She loves traveling, and is very independent and self-sufficient. In fact, she is very well-travelled and can find her way ANYWHERE. She will never get lost and is very well-versed with all the LRT routes and bus routes.
My Mom, The Sports Fan
My Mom LOVES watching sports. She especially loves tennis and badminton and can carry on an informational conversation about what has transpired in any of the tennis grand slam tournaments or badminton championships for that matter. She will also stay up till the wee hours of the morning just to watch live tennis. Oh yes, and as for football (or soccer), she supports Arsenal. Yes, she sometimes can be seen sporting the Gunners’ jersey as well.
My Mom, The Computer Literate
I am so very proud of my Mother because where so many people her age choose NOT to delve into the technical world that is today, in the name of fear of the unknown, my Mom is just the total opposite. She keeps in touch with me via IM and email, and surfs the net daily. She even checks live tennis and badminton scores on the net when there is no live telecast available on TV. And yep, if you’re wondering, she reads my blogs too 🙂
My Mom, The Fashionista
My Mom looks good in a cheongsam, a saree, a punjabi suit and yes, even a sarong kebaya. ’nuff said.
My Mom, The Music Lover
My Mom is a great singer, and she (like me) can sing all the songs from The Sound of Music. She can also do The King and I, My Fair Lady and even some Hindi tunes! She has a good controlled soprano voice and can handle any song with finesse.
My Mom, The Tough Lady
My Mom endured 16 hours of labor while giving birth to me. Yes, I was THAT stubborn and still am, till now. I love you, Mom!
My Mom, The Educator
My Mom was formerly a teacher by profession. In fact, she was one of the selected few who travelled to England to get her teacher training completed in Brinsford College in the good ol’ days. In Malaysia, she taught Accounts to Form 4 and Form 5 students. And when I was in school, since I was in the science stream, I was not allowed to study Accounts in school then (because it was from a different stream), so my Mom tutored me in Accounts in Forms 4 and 5. And yeah, I got an A1 in SPM 🙂
