Goodbye, My Dear Friend…We’ve Had Seven Wonderful Years Together

When we found out that we were to move to the States for seven months, hubby and I collectively decided that the right thing to do would be to sell my car off.  The price would only further depreciate in our absence, and furthermore, we definitely needed a higher-seating-capacity car when Baby No. 3 comes along when we get back to Malaysia, so we would be selling it off then anyway.

The problem was we didn’t know how or where to begin.  I contemplated listing my car in used car sites, but it might take a while to find a buyer and close the deal.  Given that we only had very little time to work with, this was not a very viable option.

Then we found out from a friend that his wife just sold her car to a used car dealer, and that the process took only a few days.  So about a week before we were scheduled to leave Malaysia, we paid a visit to the used car dealer’s shop and requested for a price.  He took my car for a test drive and requested for the car to be left at his shop for a few hours, because he had apparently found a potential buyer!

I was dumbstruck.

But anyway, that was a Saturday, and he told me to bring the car back on Monday because the buyer’s wife wanted to take a look too.  Come Monday, I had a short discussion with the potential buyer, and struck a deal within minutes.  It was a couple of thousand ringgit lower than my asking price, but I was willing to overlook that, given the fact that the buyer would need to fix the dents and paintjob on my car too.

I was then paid the deposit and the following business day, the used car dealer took my car to Puspakom for the inspection test.  I then went to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to sign off on the form to state I was selling my car off.  When the Puspakom results were out, I collected my cheque for the remainder of the selling price and that was it.  All done in 2-3 business days.

I’m still blinking in amazement; amazed that the entire process was so much simpler than I thought, and simply relieved that we managed to close the deal right before we left for the States.

For what it’s worth, it made selling my car off that much easier.  Seven years is a long time, and we had a lot of memories together.  I hope the new owner takes good care of my car, for it has served me well.  It’s a bittersweet feeling, and I know it’s just an inanimate object, but it has definitely been there for me in good times and bad.

Goodbye, my dear friend…I’ll see you on the roads someday.

Off to Massachusetts

By the time you read this post, my family and I would have either landed in the state of Massachusetts or we would still be somewhere inflight on the way there.

Yep, we’ve relocated again, due to hubby’s work, and this time we will be residing in the East Coast of the USA.  Hubby tells me it’s freezing cold here, so I’m waiting to see if he’s anywhere near exaggerating.  We will be here for a period of seven months approximately and although the prospect of setting up home here is exciting, I can’t help being slightly nervous too.

For one thing, the kids will be missing their schools in Penang for half a year.  In Ethan’s case, it would be his Primary One and for Hannah, her Nursery class.  We hope to fill that gap by finding them an appropriate school for this period…last resort is homeschooling, of course… 🙂

The last month, or rather the last two weeks or so, has been nothing short of nerve-wracking.  Hubby was initially scheduled to fly off on a business trip first with us following a little later, due to the potential delay in the visa petition process.  However, it soon appeared that we could all go together after all on the initially-agreed-upon date, and so began our last-minute scramble (which literally lasted till the last minute, really).

I resorted to my previously-used relocation checklist and modified it where necessary.  We had to temporarily terminate a few utilities, pay a few in advance, not to mention handle the packing and shipment of our belongings, including the temporary handover of the shipping portion of my lingerie business…and all this when we still had to settle the visa interview, which meant a quick one-day trip to KL about a week before the travel date.  Trust me, it just doesn’t get crazier than that.

In the final week before we left, we also decided and succeeded in selling off my 7-year old car, which had served me well.  It made no sense to keep both cars in Penang, when the value would only depreciate further in the coming months during our absence.  Besides, we also need a bigger car next year with the newborn baby and all.  More on the car sale deal later.

So here we are, on our adventure Stateside yet again, not knowing what tomorrow brings, but leaving it all to God.  I know we will have a great time, and it will definitely be an unforgettable experience for the kids.  Please forgive my potentially sporadic postings to come as we adjust and settle in to our new place of residence… 🙂

New Skincare Experiments

I have been fighting a hard battle with my skin of late. Blame it on the hormonal ups and downs, or what you may, but to me, problem skin is still problematic. It is also tougher for me because of my long list of skin allergens, so I have to be really careful when I am selecting products.

Of course, I try to combat the problem by using natural means wherever possible, like flushing the system with gallons of water; however, when there are new products introduced that claim to put a stop on wrinkle aging, it gets me interested at once! Yes, I am THAT vain. 😛

It helps too if the product offers a 30-day money back guarantee, in the case of this product by Ageless Derma, since I could not find a list of ingredients on the site. It is very risky for me to invest in such a product when I do not know if the ingredients will work on my skin or cause a bad reaction.

What about my other problem then? I am also mildly interested in skin lightener products, not so much for the overall whitening of my skin, but only to get rid of freckles, pigmentations and some age spots, all a result of ignorance when I did not use sunscreen on my face in the past. I can hear all the gasps and shocked expressions going round. Well, I only hope it is not too late to fix that.

Ageless Derma is the latest range of products that has hit the market, and with their money back guarantee, it should be a good move to get people curious enough to try the products to see if they are what they claim to be. Check it out today…plus there is a 25% discount for the skin brightener if you use the code AGELESS.

Breastfeeding Tips: Doing What Comes Naturally

Since I had my first child, and thereafter since diving headfirst into the world of motherhood, parenting, childcare and of course breastfeeding, blogging about it all the way, if I might add, several blog readers and friends have told me that they are thankful for the tips and experiences I have shared.  Some even said I had personally helped them in their breastfeeding journey, something which I am eternally thankful for.

Yes, I fully advocate breastfeeding and I blog about my personal struggles, challenges and experiences whilst breastfeeding, but if these can help someone else in whatever way, it has definitely made my efforts more worth the while.

However, I cannot remember formally sharing some personal breastfeeding tips which I keep; some things to remember as a mother embarks upon her breastfeeding journey, be it your first child or subsequent ones.  It’s not an exhaustive list, but I hope that my own personal pointers will help someone along the way.

Read, Read, Read!

Prior to having baby, especially if it’s your first one, equip yourself with breastfeeding knowledge as much as you can.  The internet is a wealth of information, so make sure you know all your facts.  Good websites I always refer to are La Leche League International and KellyMom.

Make sure you have all your questions answered before baby arrives (or at least most of them), so you are sure about yourself in those first few days when everything is a blur.

For example, most new moms worry their baby is still hungry when baby cries and cries nonstop, or if their colostrum is enough to support the newborn since their milk has not come in.  Resorting to formula milk is of course the easiest, no-fuss solution, but if you’ve read up on the topic, you will know that the newborn baby can survive for several days only on colostrum.

Breast Massage is Good for You

In the months leading up to your baby’s arrival,  massaging the breasts to stimulate the milk ducts and glands have also proven to produce more milk when baby arrives.

It is believed that breast massage from the end of the second trimester towards the end of the pregnancy will prove to be advantageous for milk production.
