Do you take plastic?

Have you ever been told by a store or restaurant that they do not accept credit card payments because your total bill did not exceed a certain X amount?  I most certainly have, and while I used to tell them off if they did not have a signage that states this policy, I have since been extremely lenient and politely obeyed when asked to comply.  It’s not that I approve of them setting this policy, rather I do not have the time nor the patience to argue my point.

There were a few times where I had to insist on paying with my credit card though, for the simple reason that I did not have enough cash on me.  Carrying too much cash is also a hazard, if I might say so myself.

I still maintain that stores with credit card merchant accounts ought to accept credit card payments for whatever amount is due, as a form of good customer service to the consumer.  After all the merchant fee for business credit card processing is a negligible amount to pay for fostering good consumer relationship, which in turn is a huge asset to the store in the long run.

What about you?  Have you ever been in the same position as I am, and do you think stores should honor the credit card payment for whatever amount?

The Big Red Box that came in the Mail

I received a big red box via courier last Friday.  Had been expecting it for a few weeks now and so I opened it in eager anticipation.  I hadn’t expected such a BIG box though.

WOW.

Inside the box, packed and arranged nicely were 6 pairs of bras in a myriad of pretty hues, from Sensuala Lingerie by Wacoal.  Nope, I didn’t order it online or anything.  On the contrary, I had been selected as a winner for their Interactive Beauty Zone Blog contest, and I was also lucky enough to be selected as a winner in their Lucky Draw Contest!   Yeah…don’t hate me 😛

Initially I thought the prize would be some cash vouchers, but the sponsors decided to go ahead and send me some exclusively selected bras instead.  I’m not complaining! 🙂  There were lacy bras, satin-ny bras, comfy cotton bras…and the designs are all gorgeous!

Hey, it’s been AGES since I last bought myself a nice bra, I think the last time I bought a bra, it was a maternity/nursing bra…so to be presented with SIX pairs all at once..well, let’s just say it’s mind boggling!  Granted, it IS definitely high time I revamped my wardrobe, bra-wise…

I’m happy to say the least, thank you Wacoal!

Businesses that Go Green

The everyday consumer is getting more and more intelligent and educated nowadays.  Gone are the days when someone can be foolishly conned and be gullible enough to fall into the proverbial trap of sales and marketing pitches.

Consumers have endless options to choose from.  Buying from the stores, shopping online, mail order catalogs and even online auctioning.

Stores who are smart and savvy enough would choose the Go Green route to gain more customers.  I know I would choose a store or restaurant that has *Gone Green* if given the choice.

Some of the Go Green steps taken by stores, be it physical or online are:

  • Not providing invoices with the order.  If it is an online purchase invoices are mailed electronically.
  • Not providing plastic bags.  I do like stores who provide an option for consumers to use paper bags.  Of course, consumers can use their own reusable shopping bags too, if they want.
  • Store advertisement can be in the form of social media networks, utilizing all the different technologies of today.  A good example is the social entrepeneur twitter method where tweets are sent out targeted at a particular group of people for more effective advertising.

I was also very intrigued by this interesting article I read, detailing 10 Green Internet Business Ideas.  Goes to show that great ideas can come to anyone, if we only just think hard enough.

A Light to Show the Way

parkinglights1

Have you noticed the little lights that have been installed on the ceiling at the Gurney Plaza multi-storey parking lot?  Ethan, who is ever the observant one, saw the lights when we were there a few weeks back and asked me what those lights were for.

I was stumped.  So was the hubby.

And then Ethan suggested that the lights could be to show if the parking space was available or not.  I wasn’t very sure, but we did a quick experiment.  As we backed out our car, we noticed that as soon as we vacated the space, the little light above the space we were in, changed from red to green!  Voila!  Ethan was right!

The little red lights show that a space was taken and the little green lights show that there was a vacant spot!  What a ingenious idea!  Now we can see a sea of mostly red lights, but more importantly, from far off, we can see green lights and head directly there because we know there is a parking spot available!

That is one of the coolest things ever, and kudos to Gurney Plaza for implementing this system.  Of course, top marks to Ethan too, for figuring it out. 🙂

Check’s in the Mail!

incometaxchk

Today, after a long long wait of 1 year and 5 months, I finally received my check from the IRB.  It was for an overpayment for the Year of Assessment 2008.

I’m happy, yes, but I’m still waiting for ANOTHER check from them, a bigger one. 🙂  I’m just hoping that the time taken to send the check is not directly proportional to its value. SIGH.

Meanwhile, I’m cashing this check … 🙂
