An Afternoon Cup of Tea

The E&O Hotel always brings back fond memories, at least for me.  Well, apart from the fact that we had our wedding reception there about six years ago, I really love its old English structure and romantic ambience, great food and splendid decor.

Last Monday, I invited my Mom for the Traditional English Afternoon Tea at the fine dining restaurant in the E&O Hotel, the 1885.  The last time I went for the Afternoon Tea was about 2 years ago, and I enjoyed it very much.  I knew my Mom would love the experience.

I decided to bring Ethan along with us, and told him to behave himself and stay as quiet as possible, because it was a fine dining place.  I had to leave Hannah with her sitter for a couple of hours, because she was way too young.

Anyway, we arrived and were promptly ushered to our table and given a menu with an array of teas to order from.  After some discussion with the captain, I ordered the Morgentau tea blend, a blend from Ronnefeldt that is rather sweet and fruity, but very light on the palate.  It had a hint of aromatic rose petals which was just heavenly.  My Mom ordered the orange creme tea, which had a sweet orangey-taste that was very tasty.

We were then served a selection of pastries, sandwiches (cucumber, salmon and beef), scones with jam and cream, and cakes.  Everything tasted so delicious, and the tea was a perfect complement to everything on the table.

Ethan enjoyed some of the scones and his favorite was undoubtedly the chocolate cake!  The servers in 1885 even laid out the napkin on Ethan’s lap and he was served a glass of plain water with straw!

Of course, we couldn’t expect Ethan to be quiet the whole session through, so he was asking lots of questions, and he even raised his hand to ask the captain what each of the delicacies were. LOL

All in all, it was a splendid experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who would like to take an afternoon off to relax and slowly sip on a cup of luxurious tea.  I’ll definitely be back! 🙂

Fair and Square

I spotted this seemingly *rare* sight and managed to snap a picture right before my camery battery went flat.

summons

The piece of paper held by the windshield wiper is a parking summons.  The parking meter showed that it had timed out, and the parking summons officer wasted no time in issuing a summons.  What caught my eye was the Polis Diraja Malaysia sticker prominently placed on the windscreen.

Nope…not even THAT could spare the driver from getting a summons.  All’s fair and square when it comes to parking meters, eh?  🙂

Behind the Facade

thorny

Beyond the thorny exterior, my son at once saw the letter A.  He did not even point out the thorns.

Sometimes the answer is right in front of us, but we are often blinded by the *thorny* distractions.  Sometimes all we need is to take a step back and look at the big picture.

One for the Retirement Fund…

epf

Yesterday, I made a trip to the local EPF office to register for the 1Malaysia Retirement Savings Scheme.  It had been on my to-do list for way too long, and I am glad I finally did it.

The 1Malaysia Retirement Savings Scheme is aimed at encouraging those who are self-employed or those without a fixed monthly income to put aside some money for retirement.  As an additional incentive, from the years 2010-2014 the government will then contribute 5% of the contributed savings subject to a maximum of  RM60 per year.  Because of this clause, I chose to contribute the amount of RM1200, just so I could maximize on the full RM60 government contribution 🙂

Registering for the 1Malaysia Savings Scheme was seamless.  I had already downloaded the form from the EPF website, both the registration form and the savings contribution form, and had filled them up.  The EPF office was virtually empty, and I was attended to almost immediately.  It took the office-in-charge about less than 5 minutes to enter my particulars, then my thumbprints were taken and I was good to go.

Previously the savings contribution could be made directly at the EPF counters, but now, they only accept payments at certain agent banks.  There are 4 agent banks currently: RHB Bank, Maybank, BSN and Public Bank.  In my case, the nearest bank was BSN.  So I walked over, gave them the filled-up form for contribution, together with a cheque for RM1200.

And that was that. 🙂  Easy-peasy lemon squeezy… one more item to check off my list of things to do! 🙂

The Changing Machine

changingmachine

It’s a good thing this Changing Machine has the words “Note In” and “Token Out” written on it, to denote what goes in and gets *changed* into what comes out.  Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to guess what we were supposed to do or what things it would be able to change!
