Cash in on your Fantasy May 14, 2007

Fantasy Football games are all the rage these days.  I should know…my hubby is totally into it!  The thrill of managing your own team and players involves skill and of course some luck.  The joy and excitement of watching your very own team score points against your opponents is just absolutely addictive.  Oh, andhow about throwing in some awesome prizes for good measure too?  If you think you’ve got what it takes to manage a football team, put your thoughts into actions and register your team today!  Who knows, you could see your name here at the end of the season?

Mommy’s Day Weekend to Remember May 14, 2007

What a weekend it had been!  On Friday evening, I finally received my copy of the May 2007 edition of Mother & Baby.  And I was pleasantly surprised that my letter had been published in the magazine.  Pity though that it wasn’t the Star Letter of the month, which was what I was eyeing, otherwise, I would have gotten a prize for it.

Friday night is also Heroes night for hubby and me.  We watched Chapter 21, which we felt could have had more “Yattaaa!” to it.  Ah well.. there’s always next week.

On Saturday after brunch we made our way to Gurney Plaza.  In conjunction with Mothers’ Day, all mothers were entitled to get a single stalk of rose and a slice of chocolate cake  from Secret Recipe.  The catch was you’d need to spend a minimum of RM50.  No problemo.  I claimed my red rose and was given a Secret Recipe voucher to redeem the cake.  However, at Secret Recipe, I was flabbergasted when I realized that the “slice of cake” was really just “a piece of chocolate brownie”.  Argued a bit with the Secret Recipe lady, and made her see the difference between a cake and brownie… SIGH…so much for hoping for that moist chocolate cake.  By the way, on another note, I just found out that Secret Recipe now has sugar-free chocolate cake.  Huh?  What’s the fun in that? ;)

And the highlight of the day….yippety doo da, yippety day…hubby and I bought new cellphones today! Woo-hoo!  Check these babies out…

I finally got the Nokia N73 (the one on the right in the picture above) and hubby ended up with the “True Style Never Shouts” Nokia 6300.  The 6300 is way slimmer and sleeker than the N73, but the N73 has a built-in 3.2MegaPixel-camera, all for the love of blogging.  My N73 phone, however, came with the Symbian OS which is slightly different than the usual Nokia OS I was used to.  Thankfully, the N73 came bundled with a special USB cable too, to enable transferring photos and videos into the PC.  I used the phone almost immediately and was happily clicking away the next day :)

We had a nice Mothers’ Day lunch at T.G.I.Friday’s on Sunday and was given a voucher for a free entree for Daddy forthe upcoming Fathers’ Day.  No prizes for guessing where we’re gonna eat then :)

Now excuse me while I go fiddle with my phone…heh heh heh…

I’m stuck.  And cornered.  What to do, what to do?  Although I am a frank and open person, I must admit that I’m never good at pointing out flaws in people.  I believe everyone has their good days and bad days.  Yes, every now and then, we tend to show our bad attitudes and demeanours but on the flipside, we all have our good points too.  Constructive criticism is somehow rather cliched these days, and one can never get away with a totally great feeling if one has been criticized.  And now, it gets worse.  It’s not just any *person* I have to critique, thanks to My Baby Bay with her seemingly *all’s fair in love* twist to a tag, I have to list down 5 ways my giddy half irks me and 5 ways how I make him mad back, of course, by pretending to be in his shoes.

My hubby ticks me off because he:

  1. Asks endless “Why?” questions.
Me: I feel like going shopping today.
    Hubby: Why?
Me: Because I think I need retail therapy.
    Hubby: Why?
Me: It’s been a LONG while since I indulge in it, so it’s high time I did so.
    Hubby: Why?
Me: AaarrrgGGHHHHH!!!! Because the sky is so high, in the month of July, and you end up eating Lormaikai! BleaaaghhhHH!!
  2. Follows up with a question or statement 5 minutes after I said it.  By that time, I had already forgotten what I had said.  And when I tell him I’ve already forgotten what I said, refer to no. 1 for what transpires.
  3. Spends too much time in the loo.  He reads in the loo, so it’s no wonder la.
  4. Uses jargon which is used in his workplace which I can hardly understand.
Me: So when do you think we should go for that vacation?
    Hubby: Workweek 33.
    Me: ??????
Hello??? I am not going to calculate which date Workweek 33 translates to.
  5. Criticizes how I drive under the pretense of offering advice.  My hubby says I drive like a mad woman and he is always unable to relax when I am behind the wheel.  SIGH.

I tick my hubby off because:

  1. I allow the laundry to pile up high before I actually do the washing.  Then I allow the clean clothes to pile up high before they get folded.  And then I allow the folded clothes to pile up high before they get ironed.
  2. He thinks I am untidy and disorganized.  He is a self-proclaimed perfectionist, so obviously no matter how *organized* I am, it will still be ”disorganized” in his eyes. When I go shopping, I will walk towards something that catches my fancy, but he says that’s not organized because it’s not along the *route*.
  3. I spend way too much time window shopping, deliberating, going from store to store, before I actually (or NOT) buy an item.  According to hubbs, this is a waste of time, and I should just get the first thing I see that is listed on my shopping list.
  4. I mumble when I speak.  Surprisingly though, this problem exists only when I speak to my hubby.
  5. He claims I am overly sentimental.  I hardly throw my clothes away, and although I have a wardrobe full of them, I always complain I have nothing to wear.

But after all that is said and done, both my hubby and I love each other despite all our flaws and shortcomings.  We have this golden rule we adhere to which states that we will never go to bed angry.  So if we ever disagree, we kiss and make up before bedtime.  You know I love you LOADS, right, my love?

Now this is a difficult meme but I’m just spreading the LURVE, so sorry folks, but you’re NEXT!  You have an option of listing 5 dislikes each from your spouse and from you, or you can just go with the original tag of listing 10 faults of your spouse.

PPP Love Makes the Blogging World Go Round May 11, 2007

Blogging has become part and parcel of my life now.  Everywhere I go, if I spot something interesting, my mind would start churning out a story about it to share on my blog.  I’m not really a blogaholic per se, because I do forget to bring my camera along sometimes, and I know blogaholics would never leave home without their trusted camera.  I was thrown into the blogging world when I started chronicling the growth and development of my son about a year or so ago, but I only (finally) obtained my own personal site and blog early this year.  Now, with 2 blogs to maintain, I find myself drawn to this hobby which is enriching yet profitable.

Enriching because blogging has somewhat increased my vocabulary and allowed me to express myself through writing.  I don’t get much of a chance to emulate being a writer while I am at work.  And profitable, because my blog brings me money!  You see, I signed up with PayPerPost about a month back, primarily because I was intrigued by its tagline that one could make money blogging about the things we love.  There is nothing to lose.  I am not a full-time postie though, because I also hold a day-time job, but being a part-time postie and affiliated with PayPerPost for slightly over a month, I have already earned almost enough to cover 2 years of my domain hosting costs!  I have also widened my network of friends in the process.  Now I have blog visitors all the way from the US of A, Australia and even China!  It’s amazing how blogging unites people from different geographies.

PayPerPost has really changed the outlook in the blogging arena by creating a win-win situation; advertisers gain worldwide exposure to their products, bloggers profit from merely writing about things they care for, and PayPerPost gets the exposure to attract more posties and advertisers.  In fact, a close blogger friend of mine just came onboard several days ago…PPP love is indeed addictive!

Carpe Diem! May 9, 2007

Life is short.

Too short to be spent just participating in the rat race, waking up at unearthly hours and sleeping way past midnight, only to find yourself waking up bleary-eyed in the morning again, caught in that same vicious cycle.

Too short to be spent meeting deadlines, achieving someone else’s goals and not your own and doing something day in and day out, which you don’t feel a passion for.

Bottom line is, we all should take the time to smell the roses, go for a drink with friends, throw caution to the wind, sink our teeth into that sinful piece of cheesecake, dance in the rain, get a massage, tell someone you love them. Do something that makes you happy. Life is too short to not to that TODAY. That’s why I ended up getting myself a brand new dress last weekend, which I absolutely love.

During my last trip to Ipoh, my Mom told me the shocking news that my stepcousin in Sydney just had a close shave with death. He is a gynaecologist, and was on his way to deliver a baby in the middle of the night when he was carjacked, stuffed into the boot and his car was set ablaze. Thankfully his boot opened in the nick of time, and he jumped out. He remarked that as he thought he was about to die, his thoughts were that of his wife, his kids and the lady he was about to deliver a baby for. This got me to thinking that life is indeed short, and we need to be thankful for what we have right here, right now. The saying that we should live each day as if it were our last couldn’t be too far from the truth. We never know what would happen to us today, or tomorrow or even next week. Go ahead…live today for yourself. Bicker away if you must, but at the end of the day, make sure you are happy… cos you know, that’s really all that counts.

Teen Parenting May 9, 2007

Being a parent has changed my outlook in life, and parenthood has certainly opened my eyes to many new things.  Things which I had brushed aside previously all seem daunting and sometimes a little scary now.  Although my son is only a little past one, I would and could always benefit from any information obtained about parenting.  And when he becomes a teenager, I know I could never have too much information.  I know… I’ve been a teenager myself before!

In my opinion, the teenage years are the most defining period in one’s life.  The transition from being a mere child into adolescence and then on to becoming an adult can be trying and of course, many parents worry about the wellbeing of their kids.  Teenagers experience many issues ranging from adolescent depression, peer pressure, teen drug abuse, sex and violence.  As parents, we would want to be there for them when they go thorough these problems and offer them a helping hand and a shoulder to cry on.  At Parenting Teens, parents can obtain advice and share parenting stories and best practices about how they raised their teens.  All parents will definitely find comfort when they discover that they are not alone in this challenging task.  On top of that, parents can also check out tips for raising teenagers, participate in parenting forums and even engage themselves in the parent support group.  The important message Parenting Teens is conveying to all parents is that: “You Are Not Alone”.

A Tri-columnal Theme it is May 8, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Blogging , 7comments

Finally, I have settled on a theme design I am happy with.  Doh!  I wished I had thought of making my old classic Regulus theme a tri-columnal one earlier.  Then I would not have had to go through all the hassle of hunting down themes and trying them out, only to be disappointed with the look, the colors, the headings, how the comments look, what fonts are used, the list goes on.  I’m a fussypot, aren’t I?  So there…I’m keeping it nice and classy now with the Regulus theme, but adding a third column and expanding the width of the page too.  I’m keeping the Regulus moon header because for one thing, my Chinese name translates to mean “clear moon“, so perhaps that is a sign I should keep it.  My hubby has also taken a fancy to the moon header image, don’t ask me why…. he says it’s dark and mysterious…..

Hopefully you’ll think this new look rawks as much as I think it does.  And yeah, I checked that commenting works okay… so feel free to leave me your thoughts, yeah?

Google Video Rawks! May 8, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Thoughts & Scribblings , 2comments

Google has done it again. First they started out with a revolutionary search portal, introduced an awesome mailing program and topped it off with a reader that was simple yet effective. But have you checked out their latest beta release Google Video? I have been using Multiply video to upload my video clips on my son’s blog for the past couple of months, and while it worked fine for some of my loyal readers, others were complaining that they could not view the video no matter what they did. Loading speed was also extremely slow. I contemplated YouTube but my hubby was telling me that it is banned in Thailand or something… fishy fishy….Then I stumbled on Google Video, and started uploading my videos with it. Voila! I was amazed with the loading speed and publishing the video was a breeze! Everyone can view the videos on my blog now :) However, I do have a complaint : posting the video could take some time depending on your internet connection and video size, but that’s the same for all other uploaders right?

For now, I’ll stick to my Google Video, thankyewvellymuch!

Auctioning with a Twist May 8, 2007

Posted by The Giddy Tiger in : Rainmakers , 1 comment so far

I’ve never attended an auction before but I’ve witnessed how it works on TV and in shopping malls.  Highest price wins right?  So the more money you have, the more likelihood you are of getting that piece of furniture or jewellery being auctioned.  So I was incredibly amazed when I discovered a site that did the reverse of this.  At bid4prizes, the lowest UNIQUE bid wins!  Finally!  A chance for me to get that beemer or the vacation I’ve always wanted, at a fraction of the cost!  The trick of course, is to bid the lowest possible price and it has to be a unique one too!  Hmmmm…..If I were to play, I would choose a price which is in the mid-range because I would guess that most people would bid a really really low price.  Not too high a price, because remember, the LOWEST UNIQUE bid wins!  Think about it, I could be driving off in a beemer for just a hundred bucks or less!  Wouldn’t that be sweet?  Don’t you wish you could be one of the winners?
