Bunnies and Eggs?

A couple of years back, a friend of mine asked me what I did for Easter.  I told her I went to church to celebrate the occasion.  She looked surprised and remarked, “Eh? Didn’t eat easter eggs ah?  No easter bunny ah?”

Is that what Easter is all about?  Sadly, a lot of people seem to believe so.  To them, Easter is primarily the embodiment of bunnies and eggs, when in actuality, Easter is celebrated by Christians worldwide as a beautiful meaningful proclamation of the resurrection of Christ.  Many many years ago today, Good Friday, Jesus Christ died for all our sins and resurrected on Easter Sunday, what we have come to know as the Passion of Christ.  This Easter, I pray that many more will know and understand the true meaning of Easter and not just link Easter with bunnies and eggs.

I love this Easter poem, Easter Reflections, penned by Helen Steiner Rice, which very simply portrays exactly what Easter is:

Easter Reflections

With OUR EYES we see
The beauty of Easter
as the earth awakens once more…

With OUR EARS we hear
The birds sing sweetly
to tell us Spring again is here…

With OUR HANDS we pick
the golden daffodils
and the fragrant hyacinths…

But only with OUR HEARTS
can we feel the MIRACLE of GOD’S LOVE
which redeems all men…

And only with OUR SOUL
can we make our ‘pilgrimage to God’
and inherit His Easter Gift of ETERNAL LIFE

Have a blessed Easter everyone! 🙂

Easter celebration is so commercialized, it unbelievable, anything to make more money. Have a good Easter!

The Giddy Tiger says: You’re right, the commercialism is almost up there with Christmas. Thanks, you have a blessed Easter too.

  4. Sorry I am so slow to blog. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Easter.

Sad that we have allowed our holidays to get so commercial.

For me Easter is realized everyday. It means one more day to live. One more day closer to meeting my Lord.

The Giddy Tiger says: We had a good Easter, hope you had a great one too 🙂 What a beautiful way to portray Easter: One more day closer to meeting my Lord.
