A long, long time ago, owning a credit card was a status symbol.  It meant that you are “there”.  But nowadays, even a college student can own a credit card.  So what’s the big deal?

Some people feel that credit cards are a no-no, but in my opinion they are a necessity in today’s world.  Give me credit cards any day in place of lugging wads of cash around.  Credit cards make for safer shopping, PLUS the fun part is we get to collect rewards  and even cash back with every purchase (you don’t get any points for using cash).  Having said that, I must admit that my hubby and I too have been victims of credit card fraud.  When we were holidaying in Las Vegas, my hubby’s credit card was somehow cloned and used fraudulently.  Thankfully the bank was able to reverse the charges, no questions asked.

When one uses credit cards, it is essential though to NOT get carried away when paying for purchases.  I feel that the key is to settle your bills in full each month, because the interest charged could get incredibly high!  I frequently get calls from credit cards companies promoting their balance transfer deals, but they are of no interest to me.  I would firmly inform them that I settle my bills promptly in full each month.

Of course, when it comes to choosing which card to apply for, one is always spoilt for choice.  There are so many different factors to consider when you compare credit cards.  I would recommend choosing a credit card which offers annual fee waivers, better yet if the waiver is for life!  This way, you’d only be using the credit card for convenience, which is what it ought to be!
