The Borrower

Have you ever heard of The Borrower? Every home has one, and if I remember correctly, there was a movie by this name too some years ago. My brother first told me about the existence of The Borrower in every household, and the more I think of it, the more I am beginning to believe in the authenticity of this claim. Have you encountered situations where you misplaced something in your home and you were absolutely 100% certain you put it some place? But now that you have lost that item, it is not in that “some place” anymore? And no matter how hard you look or how many times you’ve looked, you just can’t seem to locate it. And then one fine day, you suddenly find this item again in that very same FIRST place you had looked before! Deja vu?

Some months ago, I fed my boy some cheese for breakfast. And since he could not (yet) finish the entire slice, I wrapped up the remainder of the cheese and kept it in the fridge. I put it on top of the packet of cheese slices in the fridge. An hour later, I wanted to get the remainder of the cheese which I wrapped up, but when I opened the fridge the wrapped up packet was not there anymore. I distinctly remembered putting it on top of the cheese slices in the middle shelf. I looked on the top shelf, on the bottom shelf and even under the fridge. Although the packet of cheese slices was still there, the small piece of cheese which I had wrapped up was nowhere to be found! I even asked my hubby to look, but even amid his grumblings that I might have *thought* I put it there but I might have placed it some place else instead, he also could not find it. So we forgot about it….or more like *pretend* to forget about it, and went out shopping.

When we came back a few hours later, I opened the fridge and yup…you guessed it, the wrapped up piece of cheese was right where I *knew* I had left it. The Borrower had borrowed it and had returned the cheese to the location where he took it from. Another unexplained mystery?

    Eeeeee so scarie.

The Giddy Tiger says: Scared ah? Your house got borrower or not? 🙂

  2. libos says:

You should put up a note to the borrower stating your loan interest. That way you can make extra bucks from the Borrower……

The Giddy Tiger says: Good idea…compound interest huh? 🙂

  3. Adino says:

    Spooky

The Giddy Tiger says: …it’s even spookier because the borrowers are everywhere!

  4. wuching says:

i know of a few borrowers that borrow & never return wan!

The Giddy Tiger says: Wah…really? How come they don’t return?

  5. YES! I remember the Borrowers! I read all the books and watched the tv series 🙂 I have borrowers in my house too. Sometimes I think its just absent mindedness on our part, thinking too hard about blogging and PPP perhaps? teehee…

The Giddy Tiger says: But my hubby doesn’t blog and he could not find it too wor…. there’s a TV series too?

  6. LB says:

LOL!!! Sometimes I borrow from myself too, conveniently forgetting to replace the cash.. Interest-free mah? One way to beat those Ah Longs..

The Giddy Tiger says: That’s hilarious! Can I also conveniently borrow from you and forget?

That’s… freaky. LOL! I used to experience that when I was staying in my grandparents’ house. 6 adults and 3 kids make for lots of things moving about and reappearing in the strangest places. But it never happened with food, because once it was gone, it was GONE! LOL!

The Giddy Tiger says: Maybe in big houses, there are more borrowers…. 🙂

  8. Gallivanter says:

Yes, I’ve seen this borrower, still owes me some stuff…I’m gonna start throwing red paint…that’ll teach it a lesson!

The Giddy Tiger says: And if that doesn’t work, you’ll have some fabulous red paint modernistic art on your walls!

  9. Thats pretty scarey. Did you throw the cheese away?

My house has borrowers. They are also called children. They think I am Office Depot.

The Giddy Tiger says: No, I ate the cheese anyways 😛

  10. Pink Cotton says:

I do remember the movie, the Borrowers. quite a nice flick, though not nice enough for me to remember much about it!

I suspect the borrowers are at work at my place. can’t seem to find some stuff I was sure I’d left it where it was… or was it?

The Giddy Tiger says: Sounds like the Borrowers are really everywhere, in the office too!
