The shopaholic that is moi

Last weekend I finished reading my second book for the year: Shopaholic & Baby by Sophie Kinsella. Thank you Rinnah, for recommending this fantastic book to me! I simply couldn’t put it down. Such a good start to a year which I have resolved to read more in. I enjoyed the entire story immensely, and the book was written in a first person manner, which makes it so diary-like, so blog-like… as if I was in the head of Becky Brandon herself, who by the way I could totally relate to. I think she and I would make very good friends indeed. She’s a self-professed shopaholic, just like me, and she is pregnant. I remember when I was carrying Ethan, all I wanted to do was to get the best of everything for him. Every shopping adventure then inevitably led me to purchase gorgeous baby items for the baby in my womb. And I saw the same thing happening to Becky as I devoured the contents of the book in all eagerness. This book is really a page-turner. Not deep profound thinking stuff, but more of a happy, light reading material thing. Totally fab for pulling myself away from the dreary work life. I found myself reading it as I was tucking Ethan to sleep, when I was waiting for my TV program to start, when the adverts came on in between the shows I was watching and any time I could.

The shopaholic nature in me made me understand completely what Becky was going through. The book is real, it was funny, and it was addictive. In fact, I was just telling Rinnah that I’m gonna read the entire series as soon as I can. In the meantime, while waiting to start on my next book in the Shopaholic series, I am sure Becky would be proud of me. Know why? I finally got my new Guess handbag! I had been eyeing it for over a month now, but the few places that I had gone to, they only carried the design in red. I wanted the black one because it would be more versatile and I LOVE the shiny material of the bag because it would take me from day to night without any hassle or need to change into another bag.

Finally I saw the black one in Metrojaya last week, and I nearly fainted from the excitement. We only bought it on Sunday afternoon though – thank goodness it was still available then! I even managed to obtain a new one, right from the store! Wheeeeee!!!!!!! Thank you, dearest hubby love! Muuaaaaaccckkssss!!!! Now I have a new bag for Chinese New Year! It’s definitely big enough for all ’em angpows! Oh, and Paris, don’t worry… the Coach Madeline tote is still on my KIV list, I’m saving that for my next trip to Pavilion KL!

Nice bright and shiny! 😀 *unashamedly asks for ang pow* Have been still looking at the Madeline but falling out of love with it – whew!

The Giddy Tigress says: OUT of love? Why? Is it a case of “Familiarity breeds contempt”. I need to feel and touch it first…

  2. ParisB says:

btw did you increase the font of your posts? Much easier reading 🙂

The Giddy Tigress says: Yes I did. Just a wee bit. Glad you find the reading experience much better 🙂

  3. michelle says:

Maybe you should write a book about shopping yourself. 😛

The Giddy Tigress says: Yeah, maybe I oughta. But I don’t know where to start.

  4. Is it that good? I am so going to get it. I only read one book of Sophie Kinsella, the “Undomestic Goddess” which is supposed to be a not so good one but nevertheless loved dearly by me. 🙂

So I think it’s going to be one that I like. By the way, gorgeous bag! Too bad it’s going to be used to give out angpao, instead of putting more in ….

The Giddy Tigress says: If we do meet each other before you get to read that book, we could exchange books? Haha…the bag is gonna be used to KEEP Ethan’s angpows too, before they make their way to the bank!

  5. LB says:

Woman and bags! 🙂 Just what is it about them, eh? LOL!! Which is a good thing cos it’s good for the economy.. Haha..

The Giddy Tigress says: Men just never understand it, do they? I actually need to clear some of my old bags anyhow.

  6. Paik Ling says:

Wah…your hubs so sweet yah. Come think of it, I’ve been so busy buying CNY clothes for Bryan & hubs that I don’t have any! Worse comes to worst, buy new red underwear hahahha

The Giddy Tigress says: Actually there are so many types of red underwear nowadays…. yeah get yourself some. Can use during Valentine’s too! *nudge & wink*

how fashionable, that bag! I’ve always wanted a Guess bag too, but I haven’t found one that I really like. most of them have too much bling, or the nice ones are a little too expensive.

I read the first Shopaholic book, and it was really good! might pick up the second one later this year when (and if) I finish the other books I’m halfway through…

The Giddy Tigress says: I love the bag, it’s the first Guess bag I own too! I’ll gladly lend you my book, if I meet you soon!

  8. pelf says:

Domestic Goddess was also quite a page-turner 😀

The Giddy Tigress says: You’re the second commenter to say that. I think I absolutely need to read it now.

  9. rinnah says:

I unreservedly recommend Sophie Kinsella’s books to all chick lit lovers! Just wait til you read the one where the Shopaholic gets married… haha.

Now, where’s my Luke Brandon? I need to go shopping…

The Giddy Tigress says: Yeah, reading the Shopaholic & Baby book made me want to read the one where she got married, and the one where she found her sis! Jom…let’s go shopping!

  10. rinnah says:

I forgot to compliment your new bag! So chic! Is there an angpow inside there for me? Wakakakaka!

The Giddy Tigress says: Thanks! Angpows not wrapped yet… hehehe…
