Last Sunday, I decided to undergo a long-postponed project, which was to reorganize my dresser. Technically speaking, I do not own the entire dresser space, as some of it is used by my hubby. So let’s just say about 75-80% of the space is mine. This was what prompted the reorganization exercise:
Tubes of skincare scattered everywhere, and endless bottles taking up way too much space on the dresser.
With the use of Ikea’s Rationell Variera shelf insert (the white metal shelf-like device), I had already managed to create additional space for my things, but it still looked incredibly cluttered. I decided to heed Paris’s suggestion on makeup storage and use Ikea’s Antonius Basket Insert (only RM5 each!), and this is what happened:
Amazing what one piece of plastic device can do, eh? 🙂 I had wanted to get another one of the Rationell Variera shelf inserts, but they were all out, so I made do with what I had, and it turns out quite okay too.
Because the Antonius insert comprises 4 compartments, I used them to segregate certain items. It sure makes everything look neater, and retrieving things is way easier too, as I only need to drag the whole insert out if I need to.
For makeup, I’ve placed them in different little containers for ease of retrieval. When I was a Clinique user years ago, I used to get all these free gifts and containers from Clinique. Those greenish containers you see on my dresser are from Clinique and I use them to store my blushes, powders and eye shadows. I’ve also got one container for storing product samples I get from time to time. I’ve realized that samples take up a lot of space and create clutter, so I’m glad I found a nice place to put them now.
The white box of lippies is from Ikea (too!) – I’m amazed at how many lippies I have stashed away… 😛
So what do ya think? Did I do a good job? Reorganization is really liberating, and I threw away a LOT of expired makeup and skincare in the process. I shall venture into OTHER areas of reorganization soon, I hope 🙂
Good job. Now is maintaining it..:P
The Giddy Tigress says: *fingers crossed* 🙂
You did a great job! I’ve got to look for this shelf-and-insert device from my Ikea too! I like the green boxes, really useful free gifts. As for the many samples, I’ve collected many myself. Now I either use them (and not save them for ‘when I travel’) or throw them away if I know I’m not going to use them!
Re the muffins, yes, they’re different – different method of making and different proportion of ingredients. Cakes and cupcakes are similar though.
The Giddy Tigress says: Thanks Ker-Yng! I’m looking for a similar basket insert thingy from Ikea that would fit the deep shelves in my kitchen now. As for the muffins, I’m just wondering if taste-wise, they taste any different from the cake?
hahaha….I <3 those Rationell Variera shelf inserts too! got 3 at the moment – just stacked everything up since my table doubles as a dressing table, computer table and general desk… 😀 yours looks great! 🙂
The Giddy Tigress says: Those come in 2 sizes, I believe. I wanted the wider one, but they were out, so I got the smaller one anyways…
Keeping up w it is difficult. I have a other half who’ll not put back where things belong 🙁
The Giddy Tigress says: Oh, I am SURE I do not have that problem. My hubby is a neat freak! 🙂
