The very mention of fast food brings to mind a cheeseburger with all the yummy fixins, topped with a generous helping of fries and maybe a soda, or a milkshake. In the US, yes, my family and I DO indulge in meals of this sort while enjoying it too, but the kind of fast food that we love and yet, does not fill us with guilt afterward is the Vietnamese kind of fast food. 🙂
This fastfood joint was introduced to me by my dear hubby, and I have been a loyal patron since. Just like yesterday evening, when I found that I did not have time to come back home to cook dinner after work…I drove straight to this Vietnamese to-go place, and bought TWO Vietnamese subs, one for hubby and one for me.
Â
The bread is like a French baguette, and there is a variety of fillings you could choose from. Our favorite is the barbecued pork with pate filling. The sub includes coriander, shredded carrots, onions and a few slices of jalapeno peppers.
Â
Most importantly though, it tastes superbly delicious! PLUS it is healthy and is a balanced meal too!
We also like to get the Vietnamese spring rolls, served with a special peanut sauce. Frankly, the Vietnamese spring roll is an acquired taste, and while I did not like it when I first tasted it, I need to have it at every Vietnamese meal I have now.
Â
Having this for dinner is yummy AND cost-effective too. The subs cost just USD3 each and the plate of 3 spring rolls is USD3.50. No tax and no tip required 🙂
Oh, by the way, Ethan has not developed a liking for the subs (YET). So last night, while hubbs and I were chomping down our subs, Ethan had beef stew with steamed rice instead.
Â
I love Vietnamese food but we don’t get the subs like that here – boo! btw I’ll be indulging in a whole lot of vietnamese food soon – the authentic kind! blisss…. 😀
The Giddy Tigress says: Aha…lucky you! Tell me all about it, okay? 🙂
oh yea…. my kids enjoy the beef briskets too. The pho is nice too. But….subs just too light for lunch la. Ha ha..I like my meat!
The Giddy Tigress says: The subs here quite meaty wor…not enough meat for you! Oh yeah, don’t get me started on the pho! I could never tire of them!
eh! I meant, dinner!
The Giddy Tigress says: Lunch or dinner, suits me just fine!
LOL just like the ones in Oz!! I don’t quite fancy pate so I usually swap for more meat slices. The beef stew looks great. Care to share the recipe, plse?
The Giddy Tigress says: I find the subs taste better with pate in them – not as dry! Err….I kinda forgot to mention that the beef stew was also tarpowed from the same shop. But I am gonna try making beef stew one of these days!
Looks like the beef stew is more attractive. Ever wonder why they call them sub?
The Giddy Tigress says: Actually all the food tasted good 🙂 They call them subs cuz they look like subs (as in submarines?) 😛
Ethan, make sure you share that beef stew with Aunty Jem. *drools*
Wishing you & your family a Blessed Valentine. *HUGS*
The Giddy Tigress says: Thanks Jem!
I just had my lunch and now you made me all hungry again *grin*
The Giddy Tigress says: Wow, I never knew I was so influential 🙂
Even cheaper than what you can get here huh?
The Giddy Tigress says: I don’t think we can get those subs here in Malaysia though. SIGH
all the food looks soo good!!!
esp the sub!!!…i could almost taste it by looking at the pics 😛
The Giddy Tigress says: Wow…THAT good huh? *wink*

Now how is subway tie to submarines? I tot it was suppose to look like a train. 😛
The Giddy Tigress says: No la, Subway is just the brand name of the shop selling sandwiches (that look like submarines). Here’s what wikipedia says.
We also love the vietnamese sub – cheap and delicious. if we drive by Lee’s Sandwich, we usually get two of the subs to go.
The Giddy Tigress says: Only two? Hmmm…never tried Lee’s Sandwich before – maybe cuz I have not seen it around here.
