Have you had any experience talking to someone with shifty eyes? I have! …. And I don’t like it at all! Nuh-uh….eyes moving left and right as I am trying to have a decent conversation? No way!
I once read that people with shifty eyes convey the message of distrust, insincerity and lack of interest. I find it so distracting when in the course of conversation, as I am trying to explain something, the person I am conversing with has his or her eyes moving left and right. It’s not that their head is moving, just the eyes! I’m not sure if it’s a habit or not, but if it is, it is a habit that ought to be nipped!
Looking away from a person’s face once in a while during the conversation is acceptable, perhaps as an *intermission* to gather one’s thoughts but to shift one’s glance briefly and then shift back to the conversant in a repetitive manner, that’s just what I would retort with a “How rude!”, in the style of PB. So tell me, am I just plain fussy or am I making sense?
I came across one such person before… but I think that person had a problem with their eyes. I don’t know what it’s called but it’s where their eyes cannot focus straight.
The Giddy Tiger says: Oh, it’s not that the person cannot focus, but that the person CANNOT hold his/her focus.
It makes me feel that that person isn’t really interested in having a conversation with me. And I’d be uncomfortable with that thought so I would eventually end the conversation!
I once met this guy who had a habitual tic of squinting his eyes. It was so distracting that I almost began to squint exactly like him! LOL!
The Giddy Tiger says: Oh dear! I hope you eventually managed to get rid of that squint!
I dunno about shifty eyes but have you ever tried holding a person’s eyes when having a conversation with them. Sometimes I have trouble doing that as I don’t want to be accused of staring at them!
I once had to deal with a guy who had one crazy eye…a bit like Mad eye Moody π It was really hard concentrating on looking at the right eye π
The Giddy Tiger says: Yes, it takes a lot of guts and confidence to hold a person’s gaze while conversing, but it kinda puts you in control of things somewhat.
yerrrr so irritating one..no manners lor!
The Giddy Tiger says: Have you experienced it before?
You’re definitely not fussy, I hate that too. Really irritating! So, I better start teaching Elizabeth to look direct into people’s eyes while talking to them. hehe….
The Giddy Tiger says: Yup, good to train her up from a young age.
Did he/she did it throughout the conversation or at certain point only? If throughout, maybe he/she cannot control it, give him/her a benefit of the doubt. Or he/she has a bad habit.
The Giddy Tiger says: I think it is habitual more than anything.
i came across some who are like this….yeah it is irritating when they do that, but some just has the bad habit of doing that π
The Giddy Tiger says: It’s a bad habit, that’s all I have to say.
some people do it out of habit. it irritates the heck out of me if their eyes don’t stay steady. even if they’re not looking at me but looking somewhere else without shifting their eyes, that’s ok. but to keep looking here, there and everywhere… argh!
The Giddy Tiger says: I know what you mean…. and that’s exactly what I am peeved about!
I also don’t like it! It really showed that fella is insincere and not interested at all! Bleah~
But I think the worst are those who kept looking at your bust! π
The Giddy Tiger says: You’ve experienced that before?
eye contact is very important during conversation. Moving eyes half way during a conversation shows that a person is not interested in the topic.
The Giddy Tiger says: I absolutely agree!
I don’t like it as well.. feel like catching the person’s head and tell him/her “can you look at me when I’m talking to you”.. But I know, I can do that to my kid, but not to strangers la.
The Giddy Tiger says: You know, that sounds like a good idea! π
Women are scarey to look in the eye. haha But I agree. Shifty eyes do not build trust.
The Giddy Tiger says: Not all women are scary… Scary Spice maybe .. hehehe.
