Ratty, prosperity feelings

I have a good feeling about the year of the Rat.  I think it’s gonna be a prosperous and fruitful year ahead for me.  Didn’t go and check what the year has in store for me in terms of the Chinese animal zodiac, but I can just feel it.  In the months leading up to the auspicious Chinese New Year,  I have received very clear indications that lead me to believe what I feel is true.  And I am quite certain they mean something.

Why, just last night, I received a text message on my cellphone that said:

Pengumuman dari Petronas Mlys, TAHNIAH!  No. simcard anda tlh memenangi Undian bertuah cek tunai RM15000.  Sila hubungi: 006285656237997. Terima kasih.

(Translation: Announcement from Petronas Mlys, Congratulations!  Your simcard has won the lucky draw for a cash cheque of RM15000.  Please call: 006285656237997.  Thank you.)

There is so much I can do with the RM15000, I thought.  Off the top of my head, more new dresses?  New shoes?  Put it into some investment vehicle?

Well, not to mention that RM10,000 cash cheque I was promised in the text message I received last December too, in some contest I don’t remember participating in.

TAHNIAH. SimCard anda telah memenangi undian bertuah Cek tunai RM10000 dari peraduan CELCOM sila hubungi: 006285696012222.  Terima kasih.

(Translation: Congratulations.  Your SimCard has won the lucky draw for a cash cheque of RM10000 from a CELCOM contest please contact: 006285696012222.  Thank you.)

I wonder what would happen if I were to call that number.  How many people do you think would actually believe that they had won and call that number?

So what do you think?  Are these foretelling indicators of good things to come?

“Tong tong-tong C-H-I-A-N-G!!!!” *offers plate of “kum” and “ong lai“*

…oh and it MUST certainly mean something that Ethan adores Mickey Mouse too, right?

Cleaner.. shinier… leather

Today, my beloved leather sofas got a nice sprucing-up for the new year. I had been postponing this task for way too long and for the past couple of days, the task had been delayed yet again, because I couldn’t find the leather cleaning kit. It’s true!!!!!  Well, I finally found it this morning, stashed in one of the drawers under our bed and got down to cleaning the sofas. We have one 3-seater and one 2-seater, both of which are full-leathered ones. This means more time and effort will be needed to clean the sofas. Well, someone’s gotta do it…

First, I used the brush head of the vacuum cleaner and sucked up all the dust on the sofa. Of course, I had to move the sofas aside and vacuumed the floor under them. Then I used the leather soft cleaner, which was of a foamy consistency and cleaned the leather surface of the sofa in circular strokes using a sponge. I left it to dry for about 45 minutes and then applied the leather protection cream, also in circular strokes, using a clean dry cloth. I like to think of the leather protection cream as a form of moisturizer, much like the one we use on our faces. After the protective layer is applied, the sofas look shiny and so inviting to be sat on. But the instructions say to leave it to dry. So I am giving it a few hours before anyone is allowed to sit on it.

Unfortunately I totally forgot about it and sat on it momentarily before my hubby reminded me not to. 😛

You know, sometimes I wished we had gotten a non-leather sofa, where we would then be able to change the covers as and when we like, but it is moments like these, when I look at and admire how clean and shiny the leather sofa is, and the comfortable feeling I get when I lie or sit down on the leather, that I have absolutely no regrets we got these leather babies.

Red red ong ong angpows

One of my pre-Chinese New Year activities, apart from boring old spring cleaning, is collecting angpow packets. I normally start this activity about a month or three weeks before Chinese New Year. Everywhere I shop, I would ask if they had angpow packets to give away. Sometimes I have to *adjust* my purchases just so I qualify to get the angpow packets. Such is my determination to get the angpow packets that I want. Of course, I normally ask to see what the angpow packets look like first, because then I will know if it is worth the while to get them. When I told my hubby I was gonna ask my facial center if they do give out angpow packets, he asked me if my hobby is now collecting angpows. Hardihaha.

This year, I have amassed quite a good collection to date. I’m hoping to get a couple more designs because I am not done with my shopping yet. Plus, I still need to go to my other banks to get some new notes which CIMB bank did not have.

Once I am ready to pack the angpows, I will then assign a specific design for a specific angpow amount. All angpows of the same design (and in this case, same content amount) will be grouped together and placed in my bag. This way, I can easily produce an angpow of the correct amount when the situation calls for it. No need to rummage and peer into angpow packets to check the contents before giving the angpow away.

And what do I do with the rest of the angpows? I don’t know yet. Make more Chinese New Year decorations?

‘Twas made for me & you

When all the world is engulfed in the commercialism of Valentine’s Day this year, how do lovers worldwide profess their undying love in unique ways so as the true message of “I Love You” does not get drowned in all the expensive candlelight dinners and brouhaha? Every year it is a challenge coming up with an original romantic idea, something that your loved one does not expect, something that will sweep them off their feet and perhaps bring that tear of joy to their eyes … but the challenge is nevertheless inspiring, is it not? True love is not in the act of having a meal in a crowded restaurant that charges a hand and a foot. When love hits, it just does, whether it is an old friend you knew for years on end, or even if it is someone you were matched with on online dating sites like eHarmony. It just happens. Love works in captivating ways, and Cupid will strike when you least expect it. I myself can’t wait for Valentine’s Day, can you?

All together now….

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore and

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don’t break it
Love was made for me and you
