Has Facebook taken over your life?

fv2

Two people, who haven’t seen each other since they left school, bump into each other one fine day in the shopping mall.  After exchanging the customary “How are you?” and “Where are you working now?” greetings, they say their goodbyes and one of them asks, “Hey, are you on Facebook?”

Sounds familiar?

Truth is, almost everybody who is anybody is on Facebook nowadays.  It is like the one-stop location we go to when we are online.  The question is, how much of your life has been Facebooked?

A long time ago, I was hooked on Facebook, but the excitement sorta fizzled out prematurely and I’d forgotten all about it until recently when a fellow blogger-friend asked if I played CafeWorld.  I told her yes, and she asked if she could add me to her Neighbor list so that she could expand her cafe. Why not, I thought…

…and I was hooked.  Not only on CafeWorld but I reignited my love for Farmville too.  My dear farm was getting too neglected, I thought.

  • Facebook is replacing emails because we can send personal messages to our Facebook friends, without even needing to remember their email addresses.
  • Facebook can remind us of our friends’ birthdays.
  • “Busybodies” can use Facebook to find out who is *involved in a relationship* with whom, and who is *married to* whom, subject to what your friends are revealing about themselves.
  • Many bloggers have abandoned their blogs and instead switched to Facebook for quickie updates and pictures.  It has come to a point where bloggers are now using Facebook as an extension of their RSS feeds where they can tell everyone that there is a LATEST POST on their blogs.  I recently found out that my old schoolmate is now following my blog because she saw my LATEST POST update on my Facebook profile.
  • Facebook users can comment on posts and status updates in whatever way they want.  And if they have nothing to say, they can simply click the “Like” link.  Tell me you haven’t done that before 😛
  • People play all sorts of games on Facebook, without needing to install stuff on their computer like the days of yore.
  • If you ask for stuff on Facebook, there is a high possibility you will get it.  Like if I ask for say some Easter eggs, err…make that RED easter eggs, I can count on my Farmville buddies to send me a few.  How nice if this were real life, and I can simply send out an email asking people for stuff.
  • Facebook is being used to sell and promote stuff…and of course, advertising too.  Lots of online stores have Facebook links and special discounts and promotions are passed on through the Facebook channel.
  • Facebook has helped so many people around the world hook up with their long lost whoevers…although these people might just be passively viewing each other’s statuses and playing games with each other, well….that’s interaction for ya.

So are you all caught up with this Facebook hype?  Is Facebook eating up blogging, or has it already done so?

Well, while you ponder on that, let me quickly go harvest my perfect bunch of red tulips and check on my Ginger Plum Pork Chops before I call it a night. 🙂

I’m Crazily Belted Up!

belts

Lately I have been adding some pizzazz to my wardrobe…at least that’s what I’d like to think.  Jazzing up my existing outfits with belts have definitely given them a new lease of life.  Love the color contrast, the different materials and (sometimes) the cocked eyebrow wearing a belt brings. 🙂

Plus…buying belts is certainly cheaper than getting a new dress, don’t you agree?

My homemade bread story

Last weekend, I took my breadmaker out of storage after a three-year hiatus.  My attempt at baking a loaf of wholemeal bread turned out slightly short of disastrous, because although the bread was “cuttable”, it was barely edible because it was so HARD and dry!

Hannah seemed to love it though, so that was good. 🙂

But I was determined to rectify my error, and tried baking another loaf the following night, this time I used lukewarm water and omitted the salt.

Unfortunately, to my dismay, when I eagerly checked on the breadmaker the following morning (I left it to bake overnight), I realized that the mixture had not moved at all!  No rising was performed, no kneading was performed, and we definitely did NOT get a loaf of bread this time! 🙁

I thought I had somehow fixed the apparatus wrongly, so I tried again.  But then I discovered that when the breadmaker’s function showed KNEAD, the kneading arms of the breadmaker were just not moving!  In addition, the breadmaker did NOT heat up at all.  That was definitely NOT a good sign. 🙁

SIGH…I don’t know what’s wrong with it now.  It’s probably going back into storage today. 🙁

Guess I shall have to visit the bakery today to BUY a loaf of bread after all!

Memorable taste of the US

phohoa1

It only takes a moment to remind you of an experience.  And sometimes it takes a meal to bring back sweet memories.

It’s not exactly like the phố we had in the US, but it is a branch of one of the restaurants we used to frequent while we were there.  And while the menu might be slightly different, the taste is vaguely familiar.

It felt good.  And comfortable.

And my Ethan boy even said, “Wow…just like in the US!”

Why I need a new Washer

washer

My current washer, though it does its job well washing my laundry, has been going floozy these few weeks.

  • When it goes into the spin cycle, it will attempt to spin and then emit a signal telling me the clothes in the tub are uneven.  So I would then have to rearrange the clothes and let it continue the cycle.  This hardly happened before, as the washer was able to sort of fill up with some water so the clothes are more or less balanced out.  No human intervention needed.
  • Sometimes after rearranging the clothes in the tub, the washer kinda resets itself and increases the time taken to complete washing.  Say for example, it shows 9 minutes to completion when it warns me it’s uneven.  As soon as I rearrange the clothes and close the cover of the washer, the timer shows 31 minutes!!!!
  • Most of the time, in order to make it complete its spin cycle without resetting, I have had to manually hold down the washer, just so it doesn’t spin too much out of control.
  • My washer has also begun to inch its way across my dry area.  I can’t tell you how many times I have had to push it back to its original position.
  • My washer is getting noisier by the day.
  • …oh and I also need a dryer, I think….with a dryer, I don’t need to spend time hanging the clothes, I save space by getting rid of my additional clothes-drying rack and with some dryers, I can also automatically press the clothes (read: no ironing needed!)

Anyone has any experience with a washer and dryer in one?  Is that better than a separate dryer?  Because of space constraints, I would prefer the former, but I would love some honest opinions.
