A Sunday Afternoon Lunch at Blue Reef Fish & Chips

I just wanna say that at this very moment I am SO craving a serving of fish and chips.  Much more so because last week, we discovered, quite frankly, the BEST fish and chips I had ever tasted in a long while.

It was a spur of the moment decision that made us end up at Blue Reef Fish & Chips at Straits Quay for lunch.  We were starving and when we saw that the menu had a kids’ meals which had spaghetti, we pounced at it.

The rest, I’d like to think, is a love affair with fish & chips which has been reignited and reaffirmed.

Our order of seafood chowder arrived fairly quickly, and I absolutely loved the creaminess of the soup, together with the freshness of the mussels and scallops in it.

Well maybe I have always had a soft spot for chowder.

Then came the highlight of our meal: we ordered a Seafood Galore platter to share, comprising fish, scallops, calamari and shrimp, served with a generous helping of fries.  We chose the Beer Battered option, which was something I had not tasted before…and it was nothing short of spectacular.  No, you can’t get high just eating beer-battered fish and chips but you’ll certainly love it.  Our choice of fish was Mahi-Mahi, a very meaty fish, but not too flaky.  Makes a really good fish for fish and chips.

Add some tartar sauce and a sprinkling of malt vinegar and you have a satisfying meal; bite and bite after bite.

Of course the kids had a good time too, enjoying their chicken spaghetti.

All I can say is, “We’ll be back!” 🙂

Very authentic and unique, I guess it’s miles better than the typical refried frozen fish and chips you find in chain stores.

*bookmark this place for my next Penang trip*

The Giddy Tigress says: Yes this is really good. Their most expensive option is Cod, but there are several other fish types to choose from too.
