Reality telly rodeo riding

Reality television is really taking over the airwaves now. We have so many different genres of programs, ranging from action and adventure like The Contender and The Amazing Race, boardroom drama like The Apprentice, romance-driven ones like The Bachelor and even somewhat amusing ones like Beauty and the Geek. Malaysians are also banking on the reality television bandwagon now. I enjoyed watching Project Runway (the Malaysian edition) and also music programs like One in a Million. Yesterday there was a cheesy one that ended with the phrase, “You’re not what women want.”, obviously directed at the person who was eliminated from the show. Ha. Bet it wasn’t that funny for the person who got the axe.

The point is, in a way, programs such as these bring the world into our living rooms. And it certainly doesn’t hurt when for example we see gorgeous model wannabes posing with dangerous bulls, trying their best to look as sexy as possible, and at the same time, trying not to get killed. Yes, I saw that on America’s Next Top Model once. I wonder if that was the the closest the models had ever been with bulls. They probably would feel more at ease had they purchased National Rodeo Finals tickets before – I hear bull riding is one of the many events featured now. I am now also wondering if the NFR will be featured as a reality television series…now that would be awesome!

“Like that also can ah..?”

Of course can lah! When Simon talks, the world listens. And when he tags me, I do the tag. As fast as I can, no questions asked. Maiden tag, samo, you know.

What is your blogging name?
giddy tiger, or if I am veering on the wilder side… giddy tigress. Roooooarrrrrrllllll!!

When did you start blogging, exact date?
July 9th 2006. That’s the date of my first post, although it was really written a few days later than that. It wasn’t for this blog though, but for Ethan’s blog.

What was your first title?
You mean the title of my first post?  That would be “Roll Over!” to commemorate the day Ethan made a successful roll over 🙂

Which posting do you feel is the best post so far?
I honestly don’t know, and I try my best to inject something unique into every post I publish.

Who promotes/is the source of inspiration for you to blog?
Well, it started with Ethan, so he is my inspiration… and of course, he still is.. For my personal blog, anything and everything that gets my mind working is a blogging inspiration.

When dya usually post entries?
Any time I get an entry ready.  Any time inspiration hits.

Where would you prefer to be when you are blogging?
Sitting by a pristine lake, with only the sound of chirping birds to accompany me and my laptop, and the smell of nature to tease my senses… oh assuming this place has wi-fi coverage.

Have you met other bloggers? Who?
Some of my colleagues blog and I have bumped into several others in the malls.  Most of the bloggers I know by voice or email only.

How many entries you made in a month?
In this blog?  About 2-3 entries a week, more if I am industrious and hardworking enough.

Would you reveal your face or your family in your blog? Why?
Yes, I would because I would like people to connect the moniker to a face.  I don’t do it all the time though.

Would you promote your friends to blog? Why?
If they approach me about blogging, I would encourage them to.  Otherwise, I won’t go out of the way to promote blogging to them.

Would you feel restless/guilty conscious/incomplete if you didn’t blog for a month?
A month???!!!  I don’t know if I can last that long without blogging now.  For example, if I took a picture of the latest Chinese New Year deco in Queensbay Mall, I would wanna publish it pronto, now wouldn’t I?

Pssssstttt… don’t you think the CNY deco in Queensbay resembles the Christmas deco a month ago, only in a different color?  Anyway….I’m, sidetracking here…

Define blogging.

Now, what say you, fellow blogging friends?

Five slogging tiring years

January 1st 2008 marks my five-year anniversary as an employee in the current company I work in. Throughout the span of five years in the IT department, I have had three different managers and have had to move my workplace/cubicle on three different occassions. I still find it hard to believe that five years have gone by already in a *somewhat* blink of an eye. So many support calls, so many conducted trainings and attended trainings (I even had the opportunity to attend a training entitled “Love My Job”), grouses and grimaces, and meal celebrations peppered those five wonderful and also not-so-wonderful years at work. Ahem. Well, let’s just say there were up days and down days.

When I was in school, I remember doing a career quiz that promised to tell me what career would suit my personality, i.e. a job that I would be comfortable doing and be happy in. I remember clearly that the results I obtained told me that the occupations I would be suited for are those that would make me use my hands as part of the job. The quiz cited examples such as a florist or artist. There was no mention of an IT career, or even something along the lines of project management, stuff which I am involved in now.

A job that makes use of my hands…well, that’s a million miles away from where I am today, isn’t it? I never ventured to be a florist or an artist so I don’t think I will ever know if those are career options that I would find happiness in. That makes me wonder if everyone actually had jobs that really suit their personality, will everyone proclaim that they love their job, and not even have to attend the training I did? Will everyone attain job satisfaction?

Coincidentally I found another similar career quiz today and decided to take it, just out of curiosity to see if there would be a difference. And here’s what it says:

Your Career Type: Artistic

You are expressive, original, and independent.
Your talents lie in your artistic abilities: creative writing, drama, crafts, music, or art.
You would make an excellent:Actor – Art Teacher – Book Editor
Clothes Designer – Comedian – Composer
Dancer – DJ – Graphic Designer
Illustrator – Musician – Sculptor
The worst career options for your are conventional careers, like bank teller or secretary.

What’s Your Ideal Career?

Has anything changed? Will it ever?

Giddy giddy chicken stew

As a little girl, I remember my parents taking me to a small coffee shop in Canning Garden in Ipoh to eat steamed white rice with chicken stew. The lovely aroma of the stew with just the hint of cinnamon cooked with potatoes, carrots and juicy tender chicken was really a treat I would look forward to. I don’t think the shop is selling this any more now, but I am eternally thankful that by the by, my Mom managed to acquire the recipe for this fantastic dish, and thus was able to whip it up in the comfort of our home. I am even more grateful that my Mom has shared the recipe with me. In fact, this was one of the very first recipes I asked from Mom when I moved to Penang. I haven’t cooked chicken stew in ages though, so I figured last weekend would be a good time to do so.

My plans of cooking on Saturday, as was the norm, backfired when we had a power outage for about 6 hours, from 10:30a.m. – 4:45p.m. (another excuse I am using for being slack in blogging these days). So we ate in on Sunday instead.

The chicken stew recipe calls for mushrooms, either shiitake or button or both. But this time round I decided to use these fresh white mushrooms bought from the Jaya Jusco supermarket. Slightly pricey, but every bit worth it. I love mushrooms, so I used them all, stems and everything.

Making chicken stew is rather easy, I would say, though I made a mental note to make the gravy thicker the next time round (less water). Just stir in all the ingredients, bring to boil and simmer over a low flame. Of course, the dish tasted far better during dinner when it had been simmered much longer and the flavors had all enveloped the ingredients.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed the stew, though the older one preferred the stew slightly saltier. Point noted. 😛

And thus ends my cooking escapade for the weekend.

Boiling phone porridge…

Don’t you think people in LDRs (long distance relationships) have it easy these days? Look, they do not need to wait for days on end for that postman to arrive with a letter or card from their loved one. They don’t need to go crazy waiting for that latest photo from their loved one who just had a holiday in Las Vegas, hypothetically speaking. Now, thanks to technological advancements people keep in touch by merely instant messaging, via video even! And thanks to a phone card with unimaginably cheap international rates, that sweet voice we long to hear is but a few push buttons away!
