Viva Las Vegas!

All this talk about travelling (we’re planning our Singapore trip and all) reminded me of the last time I actually travelled out of Malaysia.  I love travelling as I love discovering different cultures in other countries.  I’ve been to Australia, the Maldives and the good ol’ US of A, among others.  In fact, I’ve been to the US a few times already.

One of my favorite cities in US is Las Vegas.  I have only been there once, and that was a few days after the 9/11.  We took a drive from the Bay Area along the freeway and spent 2 days in Vegas.  When one mentions Vegas, they would typically think of casinos, buffets and the glorious shows.  Would you ever consider moving to Vegas and relocating there?  Think about it: easy access to the Strip and fantastic entertainment all year round!  I definitely would not mind!

If you’re seriously thinking of relocating to Las Vegas, do check out Las Vegas homes.  Here, you can find out more about the various real estate communities in Vegas, and decide which one suits your fancy.  In addition to using this site to buy a home in Vegas, this site also provides services to sell a home in Vegas, if you have one.  You will be spoilt for choice as they have new homes available as well as resale ones.  In fact I was amazed that we could actually buy a brand new home with zero money down and get paid all closing costs, free appliances, free granite counter tops, free oversized lots and free oversized garages (operative word here is FREE) 🙂

In addition, to get yourself updated on the latest news in Las Vegas real estate, you can check out the Las Vegas Real Estate Blog, which has loads of links and useful information for the discerning property owner.  This is definitely THE site to visit for all of Las Vegas property updates.  Million Saver Homes boasts the top property agents in USA.  You will definitely NOT go wrong here.

A Paint-Inflicting Experience

I played PaintBall for the first time in my life two days ago… *applause applause* :D. My department organized the sport as a team building event. It was held at the War Museum in Batu Maung. We played 3 games in total with 2 lives given each (we asked for 9 but the marshall said that was only for cats… eh, was that a joke?)

Since it was my first time playing the game, I didn’t really know what to expect, but I must say that I was really impressed with the professional way the game was handled. I was also greatly intrigued by our battle field, which was the exact ground on which the British and the Japanese indulged in guerilla warfare on during World War II. It was a jungle terrain and was slopy, with some bunkers and trees scattered throughout the whole area. I felt that made for a more realistic “war” experience… and I was right.

After the initial explanation and yadayadayada on the rules, we were provided with our gear. We were garbed in a protection jacket, a face mask and a marker (or gun). Nah…this is me, all ready for action. Do I look like a ninja? 😉

The objective of the 3 games was to touch the bunker of the opposing team, which was where the opposing team’s flag was. As exciting as the game was, it was pretty scary at times … I can’t imagine what real soldiers actually went through during the war.

So how did I fare? I got hit for the first time right smack on my head. I felt a sharp pain as the pain pellet hit the left of my head and then it was over. I also had some of the paint splattered on my face mask and that totally marred my vision 🙁 Actually ah, this was the first time in goodness knows how long that I had actually exercised. I finished the game tired, happy and took away some bumps, bruises and scrapes.

All in all, paintball was a truly enjoyable sport. Not for the faint-hearted but if you ever get the opportunity to play, seize it! I know I’m glad I did 🙂 The paintball management at the War Musuem really handled the sport well. I heard from my hubby that the last time he went for paintball in Perlis, the equipment all smelled like sweat and body odour and goodness knows how long ago they had been washed. I braced myself for the worst here at the war musuem, however, my fears were unfounded as the face masks and all were maintained properly in between games and sprayed with Lysol. 🙂

The team building ended with a dinner at Tao Japanese restaurant, but I did not go, as it was already pretty late when we’d finished paintballing, and I was already missing Pete and Ethan. But if you wanna know what happened, you can check out Michelle’s blog here.

Borrow Intelligently

When my hubby and I decided to sell our other apartment, we engaged the services of a broker.  This more or less takes the crux of the burden of securing a buyer, promoting the property to be sold and also showing the property to prospective buyers.  However, if you are buying property and prefer to do it all in the comfort of your own home in front of your PC, you want to check out Mortgage Brokers online.  At PersonalHomeLoanMortgages.com, potential property owners are provided with the most current local news, rates, resources and information.  A useful tool obtainable from this site is the Mortgage Calculator which can get you the best mortgage rates in town to suit every discerning budget.

The site also carries an FAQ, where it details, among others, what a Home Equity Loan is.  A home equity loan is a type of loan that allows a homeowner to obtain cash loans based on the present value of their property minus the mortgage amount still left to be paid off. Homeowners often apply for home equity loans to pay for expenses such as home remodeling, debt consolidation, college education, and other long-term investments.

In fact, you can find out all you need to know about the property market anywhere in the US of A here.  From mortgage-related articles to state-specific data like in  Massachusetts or Colorado, you know you’re getting the best advice online from the experts.

Passport Express

I am truly impressed with our Malaysian Immigration Department today. Their service has gone through a tremendous improvement since my last experience with them some 5 years back.

I took Ethan to get his passport done at the Immigration Department today, along with mine too. I remembered the last time I had mine done, I had to be in queue by 7:30a.m. or else I would not even be given a number to get my passport application processed! With a baby in tow, of course we could definitely NOT make it by 8:00a.m. So bottomline…we only reached the Immigration Department at 10:20a.m. I had already downloaded the forms to be filled up from the Immigration Department website the day before, so all I had to do was to produce the forms with the necessary photocopied documents and photos, and I was given a number immediately. The amazement never ended: I only had to wait 6 numbers before I was called. By 11:00a.m. I had completed the application process for both Ethan and me, and was told to come back at around 2:30p.m. the same day to collect our passports! 🙂

After running several other errands, we made it back to the Immigration Department at about 2:45p.m., took our numbers for collecting our passports and was outta there by 3:15p.m.! Incredible service in super fast time! Malaysia indeed BOLEH….if they try hard enough.
